I know this might be out of my price range, but what are the chances the 55" LG OLED c6 dips in price below $2000 before there all gone?

Its possible. I got one a few weeks ago for $1900 at Best Buy.It has been going on sale every couple weeks and also it seems like in store you can get it cheaper then what the advertised price is on their website. Try and make them an offer and see what they say. I got a plasma some years back and i offered them an amount below what they were selling it for and they took it as they just wanted to sell the old stock.

I should. It was on sale for $2000 and I was considering getting it, but now this week it went up to $2300.

The C6 is awesome. The price although not cheap was worth it plus it has 3D which since they are not making 3D on this years models (which are a lot more $) is what made me jump on it before they were gone. Good luck.

I'm just worried about my wife. Lol She barely wants me to spend $1000, but I just won't mention the price when I bring it home. I'd rather get that though because it has dolby vision and the 3d. If the dolby vision discs are coming out in a couple months then I'd be set.

I know what you mean and totally understand. My wife actually purchased it for me as a surprise. Yes i was surprised and grateful. She knew it was something i had wanted.

Yes, plus people tend to tout the 12bit parameter of Dolby Vision and 12bit consumer displays as if their appearance is imminent but, to be more pragmatic, in reality a lot of what differentiates the quality of the image provided by Dolby Vision and HDR10+ now and into the future is actually based more upon the sophistication of the tone mapping algorithms (for example wrt Dolby Vision posted over a year ago for those not privy to the mostly weekly telcomms of the working group for the 2094 suite - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...4#post12007747 ) and how each are weighted toward best color accuracy as opposed to chasing the highest luminance, or vice versa.

They are not equal in that regard, ergo, neither will the final image be if/when viewers eventually do side by side comparisons of Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

At NAB, NHK spoke about 16k @120fps. I posted a picture of NHK's 8K HFR theater here.



In 2020 NHK has plans to launch 8k @120fps. Here's a photo of their NAB exhibit demonstrating 8K @ 120fps.

Yeah, looked very good , unfortunately one couldn’t get closer to take a pic of the imagery on the screen to share with folks because I recall NHK had one of those cameras banned placards next to the bottom of the display.

As far as it becoming part of the UHD specs, there's every reason to believe that it will be added. If Philips was able to get their format added, Samsung won't have a problem, especially since we already have confirmation of HDR10+ content being released, and we're still waiting for ST 2094-20 content.

No way that the BDA will add HDR10+ to UHD Blu-ray. That would make every UHD Blu-ray player obsolete as they don't have HDMI 2.1.

And the format specs are not changed that much after release. The beauty of physical formats is that they are consistent in time...

No, it wouldn't. HDR10+ is backwards compatible with HDR10.

Still it wouldn't seem fair to me for a physical format. You have to give people the chance to experience discs almost the same way on every player. And to add a feature like this years after the standard was set is just poor choice. And after that you would have discs with HDR10+, HDR10 and DV...

I mean, the format is set in stone, there's no reason to confuse things even more

Everyone does have the chance to experience discs the same way. If you truly want a better experience, get a TV that supports those formats. No one is preventing you from doing so.

If Philips was able to get their format passed, Samsung will have absolutely no problem. I imagine the BDA, as with everything else, is highly politicized. In which case, an enormous company like Samsung, with as much influence as they have, will have an easy time getting HDR10+ on UHD discs.

I'm not super tech dude and might be wrong, but HDR10 is the base layer required on all UHDs specifically for that compatibility issue reasoning. Dolby Vision and (maybe) HDR10+ will be optional layers added to discs when companies want to use them.

We'll see about that: I don't think it will happen, HDR10+ is mostly made for streaming services on the built-in apps for Samsung TVs.

I very much doubt any external HDMI device will support it in short time, because the hardware requirement of a new HDMI revision is too high....

Yes, but HDR10+ is not part of the BDA UHD-BD specs as it requires HDMI 2.1. The question is whether BDA will add it or not...
