Not much consolation, if it's not in the actual film. And I thought the last version had them shooting at identical times?
In the last version of the film to be released (2004 DVDs), Greedo shot half a second sooner than Han. Han "moved his head (some noob at ILM playing with After Effects could have done a better job at that, lol!)" just in the nick of time, right at the point where he shoots Greedo.

The ideal version, would be the first, where Han literally shoots first. Would be nice to have a feature on the blu-ray disc, that lets the film be viewed with the original version of the scene (Han shooting first), but that isn't going to happen.

I've done some snooping and discovered that there are still 70mm prints floating around outside Lucas's control and if one is found that is in pretty decent shape it can be scanned and restored digitally. A faded print would also work because the black level can be brought down in the edit and if it were only for the luminance signal. The chroma can be sorced from a detelecined copy of the laserdisc master and overlaid on the film. A 5.1 surround track can be made from the optical print and all that would have to be made is a center speaker and a subwoofer track. The only obsticle would be scanning it in.

Well, I'm glad about this set. We get what we get, and nothing's perfect, but I'm happy to be getting this release.

Except lots of releases ARE perfect and there's no excuse for not presenting a branching option like the Star Trek season sets. This has been my first and I suspect last post on the matter.

To re-iterate: branching would have kept everybody happy. Everybody catered for=everybody happy.

Yes, and lots more aren't. It was known for months now what versions the OT would be I've got nothing more to say on the UOT, and I think it's unwise to dwell on it. I should think this will at least better the 2004 DVD releases in terms of the transfers, if the recent news bits are anything to go by.

To re-iterate: branching wouldn't work for these films. There are far too many changes between the different versions.

I hope the Bill Murray Star Wars song is on there.

How did you get it for £54 from Sainsburys? I'm willing to pay £58 as that is the new best price that I have seen, but if I can get it cheaper anywhere else, then I'll leave Tescos in the dust!

I think all online pre orders will come with the cell. I got mine for £54, the same as yourself, and ill keep that price locked in rather than change anything at this stage

I think a while back Sainsbury were offering 20% off for new customers.

i just pre ordered it from Tesco, with the 15% discount it comes to £57.37, a bargain at that price.

I just hope i get it on or before release.

Has anyone had any experience with Tesco's pre order system? did you get it on time?

Also what happens if the release date is on a Monday like Star Wars?

I'm seriously getting excited now. A month ago, I was saying, "not too long now, just four weeks!". Now these final 2 weeks seem like a long long time!

Anyway, despite the obvious and fully expected situation with the lack of the OOT's, my anticipation is no less rabid!! Most of the changes to the SE's don't really bother me too much, except the Anakin ghost reveal in Jedi!! That is just totally in acceptable George!! In fact the only changes that always bothered me were the Empire fiddlings. The Wampa isn't too bad, but it's the dialogue changes that really get up my nose. When they cut and change Luke's reaction to R2 after he gets spat out of the swamp, you can even see him mouth the original lines!! And my biggest bug bearer is Vaders dialogue switch after his Duel with Luke, in the original he just utters "bring my shuttle", and you can just tell he is mightily pissed of, I mean, that little scene just oozes vaders regret as to whats just taken place. Now, he says something long winded like "inform my star destroyer of my arrival" or something, and that awesome scene is just stripped of the emotion. Kershner obviously knew what he was doing, I wonder what he thought of the change himself, coz for me, never mind if Han shot first (OK, do mind, Han shot first, anything else is just strange looking) That is the one change I protest against of all.

CGI, Yoda in TPM? Fantastic, as much a fan as I am of puppetry and practical effects, that was a seriously shit design, he looked wrong, Pissed, stoned, dirty, whatever, it was just plain crap! And I do like the CG Yoda as it goes, so this is a most welcome change.

The set looks OK too, some great extras, can't wait for the deleted scenes. I did have the 'behind the Magic" CD Roms from 1998, which had the Anchor head scenes on it, so having them again is great, and I can't wait for the Wampa attacks at Echo Base. Oooh, treats!

I think for the guys that are waiting to get the set on day one, seeing the pictures the by guys who pre-ordered will undoubtedly post will make us crazy. But it's the stories of how great the Blu's look and sound that will get to us.

I'm still hoping for some kind of supermarket deal on day one.

You just better hope they do better than they did last year with people's pre-order's for Alien Anthology & BTTF sets.

I was still waiting almost a week after release for both of mine, got lied to over the phone by their customer service saying it was instock when it wasn't.

I'm sure it was because they were offering 15% off this time last year for stuff and so many people bombarded them with orders, they just couldn't get the stock to cope.

Gave up waiting in the end and cancelled them both and bought them elsewhere.
