I tried the beach bum thing for the last time for a few months in South Carolina in the Surfside Beach area. I stayed at hotel/apartment type place that was right on the beach and I can't say I hated waking up to the waves crashing against the wood beams, but it also got tiresome. As my mom would say, I'm an in the moment kind of person so I'm amused for only short bursts. Hawaii is great for hiking, waterfalls, beaches (except the sharks) and general experience of their culture but it isn't really something that truly embodies everything that I desire to be around. It's kind of weird I know but hey...

So you're basically saying Hawaii is a good place to visit for vacation, but you wouldn't wanna live there forever?

Never lived the beach life style, so I can't really say. Not alot of beaches in PA Or my area I should say.

That movie really hits at a man's core & the story to me is riveting & emotional. My wife never has understood as to why I love that movie so much either. She says for her that the movie is depressing, I say that it explains a man's psyche well. I know Sean Penn caught some guff that the movie wasn't true to Chris's story but I believe he hit right on the mark.

Anyways, I'm watching this...

Yeah, basically. Unless you were brought up there or really just have the desire to be in a low key lifestyle...it will not be the place to set up shop.

San Diego is the only place in the US that has a near perfect balance of city/suburb and beach life, at least from the places I've been.

Like you said if someone was looking for a low key area that be the place for it.

Beaches really aren't that big of thing to me. I think the only beach I've really seen is the one at Seaside Heights NJ. If i could find just find a safe little place out there, then I would be happy.

not to discourage you but the cost of living in CA is crazy right now. the job market is also very competitive. i just had another interview yesterday, and once again i didn't get the job. here in northern CA you'd be lucky to have a decent apartment for $1200 mo. if only i could afford it i would like to move out of CA as soon as possible.

But...my Canuc is apparently a very naughty girl and even roots for the devils.
