No, but what would I go for? I mean I barely graduated High School.

I know I'm kinda stead fast in my ways on what I really wanna do. And also know the realities.
You could go for screen writing, public relations, communication, management, film making, etc. All careers that take place in the movie industry. I know it may seem scary at first, but I can totally imagine you loving school, your parents will look up to you also. Worried about money? The Federal Government has plenty to loan/give you for education. Go for it!

Yeah I'm going to use my Pell Grant allotment for this term to pay for the new set of tires I'm going to get and then save the rest for all the gas I'm going to use going to work and classes and my internship that starts next term.

I suppose so. But I don't have any colleges around my area. Or atleast with those types of things. I know I'm always saying I can't when I can really. About the parents looking up to me part. The only thing they say would be "I ain't got money for that. Don't look at me"

Does Pell still require a certain GPA to sustain the grant?

2.0 but honestly unless you simply don't try there's no reason you shouldn't be able to maintain a 2.0.

Yes, definitely! School should never be underestimated. That is the path that many people should be taking.
I only suggested to MBF coming here to work because of obvious reasons. Anything to do with Mining is also a good trade!

Speaking of Trades...why not do that? The careers are far ranging! Theres almost everything under the sun that could make a man happy!

Had a 3.29 in preparatory school, which I graduated in 1998 and 2.65 at NMSU, current CNM GPA is about 1.80 but it'll go up after this term and my grades for these 4 classes go in. That horrid GPA is from back when I used to ditch class as a teenager, anyway.

Lol!
-25F is approaching cold, but like my posts in the "Damn it's Cold" thread would tell you, thats only the start of it. I've worked in far, far worse! I think, but am not completely sure, the worst was -63C (-81F). I remember thinking "Wtf am I doing here?", but then I got paid and happily went back. Yes, I am a Northerner and you'd think I'd be used to it, but cold is f'n cold, no matter who you are or where you come from. That is the price I pay for not finishing school, and yet, I have no regrets. I love what I do and wouldn't trade it for anything. Just the thought of working in a cubicle or an office would drive me to madness, I'm sure (no offence meant to those that do).
I started out doing the jobs that I do (Drills, Drilling Rigs & Heavy Equipment) because I HAD to. I left school early because I was a f**k up and had no choice BUT to take the jobs that others couldn't handle and I thrived on them, like a lot of other people in my region. Even though the environments, both physical and mental, may be tough at times, I still love what I do! Would I recommend that to anyone else? Including my Loved ones? Eff no! I'd say go to school and get a job that isn't so f'n punishing!

That is my advice to you MBF. Take Darth and Jett's advice and just go to school! You're going no where in your present situation so why not take a chance?
You have absolutely nothing to lose! Why not take a chance?
You can do ANYTHING if you put your mind to it!

That is it for my rant of the day.

Ignore me all you want, but don't b**ch about being unemployed, I'll call you out on that.
My offer stands. Get a Work Visa and a plane ticket and I'll see that you make more than enough money to get you to California. Others have done it (I've worked with them) and you can too.

No, I saw your post. I was going to make another post about it. That's very sound advice. And that weather up there is crazy. I think 10-15 degrees here is bad. If I had to live in below 50 weather don't know what I do. But seriously, I don't even have enough for a Plane Ticket. I don't even have enough to eat recently.

I know my sister had government grants for college. She went to college and didn't have to pay a thing. She only went for one semester though. She didn't go back anymore after that. Guess it was too hard for her. But I'll look things up on the net. I mean it's what it's here for right? So thanks the advice. All of you really.

That's not a bad idea. I read that Alberta is going to need some 1,000,000 jobs over the next decade due to the Oil Sands!

That is insane! And also welcome!
I worked in Ft Mac in '08 and thought it was pretty good. The big problem they had back then was the Mines were hiring, but the infrastructure could't handle it. The contractors were trying to build houses and housing as fast as they could, but couldn't keep up. There was (is?) a bridge that was too small and choked traffic badly! Everything purchasable is waayyy more expensive than it should be!
In the six months I was there, I think I made somewhere around 85,000 which is insane! I could've made 200K for the year if I put in the o.t. Tradesmen and Tradeswomen make much more!
This past September I had the chance to go back, but I have ethical issues that have to be sorted out before choosing that option.
But to any Tradesmen out there, go for it, you won't make better money anywhere else! (W/o being in danger of your life like other parts of the world)

If I had to start over again and decided not to go to College I would definitely take up a trade and move to Alberta or even Saskatchewan (it's booming there as well). Carpenters, electricians, etc. can make some serious, serious money out there, as evidenced by yourself.

Nooo John. Yes, I've been there but I'm far from well off.
Yes, If I could go back, I definitely would have focussed on a trade. They make killer bucks and have tremendous job security.
When I was there, I drove Truck. Those f'n big machines you see on Discovery Channel? That's what I did. And I got paid handsomely for doing that too!
A Bro of mine, who is a Tradesman, got a 100K to buy a house and signed a deal for just THREE years!
Yes, Alberta and the Oilsands are the way to go. But only if a dude wants it bad enough.

Btw, there is a huge discrepancy between the ratio of men to women there. If you can get one, grab her. If not, fight like the rest of us did!
Lol!
