Anyway, alternative opinions (without feeling the need for fruity language), by filmmakers who have seen it, rather than only reading articles about direct LED cinema screens - Darren Aronofsky, Director of Mother, etc. Tom Stern, Director of Photography Sully, etc. David Brown. Lighting director probably best known for the Lord of the Rings films and Avatar Dow Griffith, Location Manager for Ghost in a Shell, The Bourne Supremacy |

But I did post the link on few other sites before I saw it here, so there was some part serious too, and I was busy too, on this subject, and on other subjects too. The main thing is that the latest news on HDMI 2.1 got here. DanBa and you are two great contributors, among others. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davealt.../#2e013141242b |

HELP!! I just purchased a Sony 55xbr900e and I'm having problems with the HDR! I have two devices connected to the TV, and xbox One X and a Sony Ps4 Pro. I'm using HDMI ports 2&3 respectively. Now, here's the problem I'm having:
When using either device to play a game, the HDR won't turn on. I've turned on every setting I thought would make it work, but the strange thing is, the MENUS for both the PS4 and the XBOX are in HDR, but as soon as i insert a GAME and play, HDR is GONE. colors are drab, etc. When I then exit out of the game, the MENUS are NOT in HDR anymore!! I even made sure the HDMI ports 2&3 had "enhanced" mode engaged, for HDR. the only time it truly LOOKS like I can get HDR when playing a game on EITHER system is when I turn OFF HDR on the game systems themselves, but leave ON HDR in the TV settings. Playing a 4k blu-ray on the xbox doesn't engage the HDR either. I"m pulling my hair out! What the bloody blazes is going on here? Obviously the problem is the TV, not the video game systems. Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. |

Haven't read the entire thread so sorry if coming off as a newbie: I just acquired a Sony x900e (with a ps4 pro) and quite pleased withthe HDR but realised that the Colors are much less colourful than SDR. I've read numerous report of people having washed out Colors so i guess it's normal? I'm pretty sure all my settings are ok so I assume hdr is meant to give a more realistic, less saturated and contrasted look to the picture?

If you only had the TV for a short time give it a little more time. You could also share the setting you are using here as I am sure there'll be no shortage of input. Have you left most things at the factory default or changed some settings, if so which ones to what? What picture mode are you using? Any particular movies you have in mind that are washed out or is it just with games? Answering those questions might be a start to work out what's causing your less than ideal picture. |

It happens also in "Horizon Zero Dawn". WHile using HDR in game, take a screenshot, then quit the game and go check the screenshot in the Screengrabs. The colors looks much more vibrant (almost cartoony) I'm not saying it looks necessarily bad in game, but am just wondering if it's normal. As for my settings: PS4: Everything is auto x900e: - using HDMI port 2, enhanced - Game Mode - Brightness 30 - Contrast Max - Gamma 0 - Black Level 50 - Adv Constrast : Off - Local Dimming : high - X-Tended Dynamic Range: High - Live Color: Low - Color Temperature: Warm - HDR Mode: Auto - HDMI Video Range: Auto - Color Space: Auto |

The HDR might cause many parts to look darker, dimmer which will also might make some colors appear less saturated or probably more precise. However where they are due you should still get extremely bright colors. I have a PS3 not a PS4 with HDR I also don't use it much anyway so this comment is based on movie playing. I have a Sony model thats a bit better than yours but the control interface and options are basically the same. Based on your settings I would like to make some comments always keeping in mind that I don't find HDR much less saturated than SDR. Game mode has a very good reason to exist which includes keeping lag under control however Sony's implementation don't give me an image I like. My settings are different but I don't see anything wrong with yours and this is something that goes more with personal taste rather than anything else but can I suggest you try at least a couple of changes? 1)colour temperature Neutral instead of warm 2)Adv constrast > med 3)you haven't mentioned black adjust, I have it on low. 4) Live color to medium instead of low You have not mentioned the color level you have, mine is set at 60 but if your preference is brighter colors then you can always add a couple of points.
