Because technically, YouTube isn't hosting and making them available to download. The programs used to download YouTube videos bypass permissions.

Yes. It should have happened, and it's made all the more galling that it hasn't. Obviously HDR10Plus content won't work on YouTube as it is now, so a downloadable file which we can playback via USB is the only possible option for testing and a demo.

If anyone reading this does have any HDR10Plus content and wants to send me a Private Message about it, I'd be very interested and promise not to say who gave me the files.

They are afraid of people demoing their HDR content in the best possible light to friends (in a dark room not a bright TV showroom). They are afraid of goodwill and word-of-mouth enthusiastic marketing. They are afraid of people helping their sales by showing their friends the HDR demos and getting the message out there how amazing it looks on their TVs which meet the Ultra HD Premium certification.

I don't know everyone but if zmarty's channel is "The HDR Channel", it doesn't technically have the full Samsung demos because the versions on that YouTube channel have totally replaced soundtracks, which in some cases make little impact but in other cases make them completely ridiculous. The audio for these demos isn't just a bolt-on or something in the background to listen to while you watch, it is an integral part of the work and in many cases exactly synchronised with the pictures on every cut for maximum impact. This is all lost if you [are forced to] change the audio [for copyright reasons] . So to have them on YouTube with wrong audio is obviously better than nothing and very welcome , but the wonderful person (@DemoUHD3D) who hosted the original files with the correct soundtracks and made them available for download was in a different league. Which Samsung hated.

Should ask Rudy1 over at AVS forums. Maybe he'd be able to get his hands on one.

Is this Technicolor HDR delivery system operational for the time being?

Check out the Oppo 203 thread. 4k discs are not locked.
Regular BD's still region coded. Several internal or external mods can be had to go region free.

You’re welcome to.

For those who may freak out just thinking about a hybrid mix of SDR->HDR upconversion combined with pure ‘native’ HDR acquisition, Technicolor’s mindset is that for the time being, all players in the industry can’t do practically (as in cost-effective) a live all HDR production with all HDR interstitials and HDR cameras, so their idea is to also provide an interim approach until we can get there…..which would also increase the awareness of the general population to the concept of HDR

And, on a side note, full native HDR is not without its own peculiar challenges for camera operators and shaders. For example, when you are working in HDR and WCG at a venue like for basketball or soccer with those large scoreboards and encircling signage, the color saturation and brightness of these things becomes so prominent that it can be a real distraction to the actual play (although I assume the advertisers would have no problem with that). Even the crowd around the court is more detailed, so that background can also be a distraction to the contest itself.

Absolutely, a concern in both broadcast and OTT, which is why I specifically queried Kris with hopes of procuring input by Stacey about this. Which he did.

I remember it….to clarify the nomenclature, that’s a slide outlining the combination of Technicolor’s upconversion technology (which b.t.w. for those who didn’t know was used for some HDR VOD selected sports during the 2016 Olympics) and Technicolor’s distribution technology bundled under the moniker Advanced HDR by Technicolor.

As to your question, “operational” in terms of commercial deployment to customers in the field rather than successful proof of concept tests?, .....nope, not that I’m aware of, at least not in the U.S.

P.S.
As to the ETSI document which you linked in that post, to give full credit where credit is due, SL-HDR was jointly developed by Technicolor, Philips, STMicro and CableLabs. Not getting much traction at all.

I thought that was just a spoof vid from looking at the YT thumbnail, I had no idea it was a real thing. Good old Simon McCoy.

Yes they do considering that they are all demos of that company's SDR-to-HDR conversion system. I think we need to be clear that they are all conversions from SDR? I think THEY need to be clearer, too. I've seen one video with a disclaimer caption at the start. But the others, do not. Given that I've been waiting since last November for genuine movie HDR trailers on YouTube (you'd think Hollywood would want to do that!), I find it very suspicious that all of a sudden only this one company uploads them, not the normal outlets.

You are “spot on” as usual Geoff. OLEDs won.

But this post is about the first high profile DV vs HDR10 comparison (I believe) between LCD High Nit displays and also OLED HDR10 displays. LG B7 OLED - PANASONIC EZ1002 OLED - SONY A1 OLED - SAMSUNG Q9 LCD- SONY ZD9 LCD

In this release, there was an easily noticeable different between DV and HDR10. The DV version had more depth to the picture. However, there was a bit of over saturation which was acknowledged but that didn't impact the 3D depth of the scene delivered by DV.

Absolutely no surprise whatsoever. I won't grouse about it because there's zero point in doing so.

Speaking of HDR, is there any chance that the Winter Olympics or next summer games will be broadcast in 4K and/or HDR ? Even if not in USA. Seems like there were attempts to show 4K in the past.

Below is the response to my question.

Ofcourse, that's one sample from Power Rangers on a set that probably needs better DV specific calibration so it's not the end all. Having said that, with what we saw, the DV version of Power Rangers was noticeably better than the HDR10 across the board.
