Often what is best doesn't really matter, it's what ends up winning. VHS versus Beta being an obvious example, but there are many others. I feel like if UHD is doing as well as early sales indicated, and it's free for everyone to use, that's a huge leg up. Dolby Vision being better (slightly or massively, depending on who you ask) doesn't really matter in the end. It's all about if they can sell it and get it out there and more common.

On another note...

Regarding ATSC 3.0, there will probably be some news officially announced, publicly, in the coming weeks with regards to inclusion into that standard of additional HDR technology (beyond the already publicized/listed core elements) as well as alternate color representations as discussions on both those fronts seem to be progressing well within the video group.

^ Meaning something other than PQ, HLG transfer functions and static metadata for PQ as in the current video Candidate Standard… http://atsc.org/standards/candidate-.../#.WQZwKBPyu1s

Is there a list for all the HDR material on Netflix?

Thanks! I am little surprised that not all of Netflix 4K material is in HDR.
I really hope all future Netflix produced content will be in HDR. HDR is is a much bigger deal than 4K to me!

Watched the ending of The Phantom Menace (Naboo Parade) in my OLED's fake HDR mode last night. It made so much of it look so good, but of course the CGI stuck out like a sore thumb!

Buying an expensive OLED and then turning on a processing mode like that...

Live HDR, especially in sports, will be a catalyst for widespread consumer adoption of the high dynamic range format. The HDR clips taken directly from live production testing of professional golf and even basketball freestyle dunking shown at the recently concluded NAB were impressive.

Add to that, combining HDR with HFR (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post13461582) live production and transmission….well, the mass public is in store for a new era of improved picture quality with regards to clarity and color once the current broadcast chain is upgraded for its implementation.

In my defense it was only a minute and a half, so let's just call it testing all of the available features on my TV.

I think 4k is under-appreciated. It's no coincidence that the best 4k Blu rays come from those with native 4k workflow. The reduction In artifacts and ringing from true 4k is a welcome change. The hit rate of 4k Blu rays with native 4k workflow is probably above 90-95%. 99% of complaints of the new format come from those that have 2k digital intermediates, and that's just a fact ☺️☺️. Hardly any complaints about movies such as sully, revenant, Lucy, sicario, Passengers, etc.

Cable TV is so awful I'd be willing to take 1080p with hdr compared to the 720p crap we get today.

It sounds like they did decide to add some of the other HDR formats along with ICtCp. Options are great as long as it doesn't add too much to the cost.

When it all works in tandem then proper 4K rez is the cherry on top, but I've been just as stunned by the HDR alone on plenty of 2K titles - and I don't even have proper HDR, as you like to keep reminding me.

I just moved and need to pick up a new TV for my man cave asap. I've been considering a 55" ks8000. Would that be the best option still for around that $1000 price or should I consider one of the 2017 models? I heard the Sony x900e was also pretty good, but that costs more. Will both have Dolby Vision now? Also considering a Vizio Park series.
