This should at least get some golden globe nods. I mean if the Tourist can. Why not this? I'm talking about Jen and the movie. But the song too if it qualifies.

If it were up to me -- which, unfortunately it isn't -- both the movie and JLaw would be nominated. I can't comment on the song, since I don't see many films with songs, so I don't know where it stands really.

you should check out the article I posted on the previous page saying how Variety says the Academy should acknowledge films like this. Next year it could go either way. With both Mockingjay part 2 and Joy. But I'm they'd go with Joy seeing how it's more Oscar friendly, plus its from David O' Russell. Who's last 3 films were nominated in every acting category among others.

Just saw this. Major downshift in pace from the last film. I like that they spend the time to build, looking forward to part 2.

This series is doing an excellent job feeling like a continuous story. Benefits of book adaptations, I guess.

Wouldn't be shocked if the song is nominated for an Oscar it really is a good song very catchy fit very well into the movie and was very emotional.

Jennifer Lawrence deserves an Oscar for Katniss but why doesn’t The Hunger Games win big awards?
Quote:
I saw a great film recently that looked at war in an emotional and engaging way. There was great acting from the lead and the supporting cast and it was a smart story overall.

I am, of course, talking about The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

Despite the overwhelming love for these films, from both critics and fans, they seem destined to only ever get award recognition from MTV.

Because they are based on a YA book series does this mean they are not so worthy of the prestigious accolades?

I can see Jennifer Lawrence winning a surfboard, not an Academy Award.

Lawrence has, as we know, done very well during award season for her work in both Winter’s Bone and Silver Linings Playbook.

Yet, no ‘respectable’ award ceremony is likely to give her the nod for her work in The Hunger Games films despite her performance as Katniss Everdeen being some of the best work of her already impressive career.

As Katniss Everdeen, Lawrence embodies an incredibly complex character, who is being forced into horrific situations, and her performance is stunning.

Just look at that final shot from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – so much is conveyed and she never utters a word. Take that performance out of this film and slap it in the middle of a war drama and it has ‘Oscar-winning’ written all over it.

It’s not just Lawrence who deserves the recognition either. Superb work has been done on adapting the Suzanne Collins novels so recognition should also go to the adapted screenplays.

The films also boast some truly stunning special effects, costumes and set designs. The world of Panem was not an easy one to create but the work of those behind the camera certainly paid off.

Then there are the many very serious issues dealt with in the films – and I’m not just talking about our appalling fascination with reality TV!

We have a nasty dictator in President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and a government who rules through fear. We examine mental health problems through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and deal with heartbreak and loss in a very real way.

They may be dressed up in fancy Effie Trinket costumes and the opulence of the Capitol but crack beneath the eerie smiles of The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and you will find breathtaking cinema of a truly high calibre just screaming out for the more prestigious awards.

No.

Oscars are hard to win because of better performances in a given year. Look at Leo for example.

I don't think this is true. The Fighter got a lot of acting nominations, but not in the lead categories.

Mark Wahlberg was nominated and so was Amy Adams (At least I think they both were. I could be wrong on that) Melissa Leo and Christian Bale won for supporting roles. But Bale was almost just as much a lead as Wahlberg was. But they just placed him in supporting so he could win.

Either way. Both SLP and AH did though.

Wahlberg's nomination was for The Departed.

I guess i don't know it all after all. So I got it at least half right. Plus I'm right about the other two films. Imagine if he (DOR) wins for a movie about a woman who invents a "miracle" mop. And vice verse for Jen

I'd likely be watching it on my Computer. I'll have a Oscar party of one. I mean if i still live in PA yet. And haven't moved out to CA finally. When it was announced earlier this summer people were predicting her as the 2016 frontrunner already.

I don't know, I think she is going to have to do something serious and groundbreaking to win an Oscar. Something by one of those "legendary" directors.

She's already won one, and been nominated for another. So I almost have no doubt she will for Joy.

What kind of serious or groundbreaking thing you have in mind? And when you say "legendary" directors you mean like Martin Scorsese or Steven Spielberg? Scorsese's long time collaborator De Niro will be in Joy playing her characters dad. And also talks of Leonardo DiCaprio starring it aswell.

A Stanley Kubrick level director.

Well, who would that be then. Seeing how he's not around anymore. Terrence Malik? Certainly not Christoper Nolan? Quentin Tarantino.
