I think it could maybe pull off another $10-$15 million or so, and I say that because the amount of showtimes where I live are decreasing by the week, so it's not looking too good. At least January looks to be another slow month as usual, with the exception of Taken 3, American Sniper, and perhaps Selma. Oh, and Inherent Vice.

Also, this might be the last time a Hunger Games film will have legs like this because for Part 2, it will have to compete with Star Wars during the holiday season, and that's just not happening, sorry to say. Still it's been a fantastic run for both Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1. It's refreshing to get November blockbusters again.

Still $19 mil ahead of GOTG at same point in release. Will be at $322-$324 mil after the weekend is over. That makes it only $8-$10 mil away from passing GOTG for Number 1 of the year.

Unless I'm missing something, the year ended 3 days ago. There's no way they can catch up... unless there's some Hollywood fiscal year that I'm not aware of.

Movie records are kept for the year of their release, even if they are still in theaters past Dec 31.

My guess is if its still in theaters it still counts for the following year.
