This sucked compared to Catching Fire, which was perfect in my eyes. They really should not have split the last book in two, what a gash grab. I definitely won't mind waiting for a part 1 and 2 combo pack. Hopefully part 2 is as amazing as Catching Fire, or even the original.
I should add, the theater lights were never turned off during my viewing, which may have affected my view. Last edited by Falaskan; 11-22-2014 at 08:14 AM. |

Well, I was going to write that Katniss isn't supposed to be great at singing, but if memory serves me right, Peeta did say she had the most beautiful voice in choir or something, and her dad said the mockingjays imitated her voice when she sang in the meadow because they thought it was the most lovely sound.
So she's no operatic Sleeping Beauty, but I admire her folksy sound. I suppose this is another instance where movie version Katniss differs from book version Katniss. Perhaps her average (above average imo) singing voice makes the propos more effective because if she had a diva's voice, wouldn't people think less of her as a tormented, vulnerable mockingjay? But I love that the song really does showcase her as the mockingjay, because she is singing just as the birds are known to do. I guess I missed that symbolism when reading the book. Or I just forgot. --- Oh, and JLaw has made it clear numerous times in interviews this was the part of the movie she was dreading to do all along and she had 'cried' the day before, stressing over it. I was honestly impressed when I heard how lovely it sounded after all of her comments on how horrible it was going to sound. The scene struck an emotional chord within me. [Show spoiler] . Although, I had a similar experience during those scenes. The light from the orange lights on the stairwells bounced onto the screen so some of the information was indiscernible during the dark scenes, because whatever needed to be a dark black came out a mixed orange-black. Lol. But I understand that those are a safety regulation, so I wouldn't complain over something so miscellaneous and mandatory. I'm just curious to see how the movie would have looked in a different theater. I'm sure the blu-ray will look better in my light-controlled projection room. ![]() Things like light spills or sound systems in need of recalibration or HFR (when seeing the first Hobbit) ruin the movie-going experience for me. Thankfully, those experiences have only ever been few. Last edited by VagueSimplicity; 11-22-2014 at 09:20 AM. |

I've liked the first two films but I found this just average. I haven't read the books so I don't know what is to come of the final part but based on this film I think it all could have been told in a single film. This was mostly just mid season television filler and it suffered because of it. Jennifer Lawrence is also starting to grate on me as an actress so that isn't doing the film any favors.
It was nice to see Julian Moore and Philip Seymour Hoffman together again though. It did make me sad knowing that he is gone which took me out of the film a couple times. Guess that is going to happen a few times in the coming months with Robin Williams and Paul Walker. 3/5 |
