suits me fine, haha. but yep our CD's are astronomically priced. and iTunes is barely any savings.

heck, ST Into Darkness free download was 25 dollars for us. :/

so the only thing about this movie I haven't quite connected yet is
[Show spoiler]related to the end of Catching fire when, Katniss seems to quiet the inner emotional storm and seem to resolve herself on screen. there was a hardness there so it was a little interesting for me as a non reader of the book to say o.k that is now missing. she obviosuly re discovers herself as the hospital was bombed but I largely think I haven't seen that steely resolve that was hinted at - fantastic that she is the Mockingjay but I expected Katniss to have had a slight change in her behaviour that hasn't been seen previously. Perhaps this will bare out in Mokingjay prt 2 or perhaps I read too much into the ending of CF

only a minor criticism

well, i'm gonna head off to bed now and try to get some sleep. Now lets see if I can. Because in less than 12 hours i'll be seeing this movie in all its glory up on the big screen with my Jen.

I'll report back later on with my thoughts and what I felt on it.

[Show spoiler]Peeta and Johanna are my two favourites so I was disappointed when they both got less than 5 minutes of screentime combined.

I wouldn't be surprised if this fails to make $400M domestically.
[Show spoiler]Peeta and Johanna will both be in the finale quite a bit unless they stripped that away. I doubt they will do that to Peeta though, since THG is really almost as much his story as it is Katniss'.
This is a solid movie but it is the weakest 1 of the 3.
THG - 4.5/5
CF - 5/5
MJ - 4.25/5

Default The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

This sucked compared to Catching Fire, which was perfect in my eyes. They really should not have split the last book in two, what a gash grab. I definitely won't mind waiting for a part 1 and 2 combo pack. Hopefully part 2 is as amazing as Catching Fire, or even the original.

I should add, the theater lights were never turned off during my viewing, which may have affected my view.

Omg, I noticed this during the movie, too, especially when you look at her from the side. I turned to my friend and said "You know Willow Shields is starting to look a lot like Shailene Woodley." She just glared at me and said "You don't get to talk anymore." Pretty clear she's not very fond of Shailene or "Divergent." lol

Well, I was going to write that Katniss isn't supposed to be great at singing, but if memory serves me right, Peeta did say she had the most beautiful voice in choir or something, and her dad said the mockingjays imitated her voice when she sang in the meadow because they thought it was the most lovely sound.

So she's no operatic Sleeping Beauty, but I admire her folksy sound. I suppose this is another instance where movie version Katniss differs from book version Katniss. Perhaps her average (above average imo) singing voice makes the propos more effective because if she had a diva's voice, wouldn't people think less of her as a tormented, vulnerable mockingjay?

But I love that the song really does showcase her as the mockingjay, because she is singing just as the birds are known to do. I guess I missed that symbolism when reading the book. Or I just forgot.

---

Oh, and JLaw has made it clear numerous times in interviews this was the part of the movie she was dreading to do all along and she had 'cried' the day before, stressing over it. I was honestly impressed when I heard how lovely it sounded after all of her comments on how horrible it was going to sound. The scene struck an emotional chord within me.

Uh... she provided vocals on a song for the film. What else would pass as "trying" to be a singer?

Hey, haven't seen the movie. Not sure if there's an actual point to her singing the tune, I just thought said singing was pretty tough to listen to. I'll refrain from sharing pointless opinions next time I'm bored.

Wow, really? How awful. Please tell me you asked for your money back. I could definitely see how that would affect those terribly dark scenes on the hovercraft and
[Show spoiler]during the rescue mission
. Although, I had a similar experience during those scenes. The light from the orange lights on the stairwells bounced onto the screen so some of the information was indiscernible during the dark scenes, because whatever needed to be a dark black came out a mixed orange-black. Lol. But I understand that those are a safety regulation, so I wouldn't complain over something so miscellaneous and mandatory. I'm just curious to see how the movie would have looked in a different theater. I'm sure the blu-ray will look better in my light-controlled projection room. (The dark scenes in the trailer sure do)

Things like light spills or sound systems in need of recalibration or HFR (when seeing the first Hobbit) ruin the movie-going experience for me. Thankfully, those experiences have only ever been few.

I've liked the first two films but I found this just average. I haven't read the books so I don't know what is to come of the final part but based on this film I think it all could have been told in a single film. This was mostly just mid season television filler and it suffered because of it. Jennifer Lawrence is also starting to grate on me as an actress so that isn't doing the film any favors.

It was nice to see Julian Moore and Philip Seymour Hoffman together again though. It did make me sad knowing that he is gone which took me out of the film a couple times. Guess that is going to happen a few times in the coming months with Robin Williams and Paul Walker.
