What a silly piece of copy. Sure, 8K at its best - i.e. premium demo-quality displays and specifically shot content - will look better than 4K which in turn looks better than 2K, BUT WHERE IS THE CONTENT? We're still struggling with 4K finishes for feature films, never mind 8K, because filmmakers are still finishing for cinema's specifications first and foremost - and 2K is still the dominant projection tech by quite a distance. Yes, 4K finishes are rife on streaming platforms and they will no doubt start to mandate that content be finished in 8K in due course, thus setting up some OTT 8K content (also youtube etc), but that's where it will stay.

I think that 8K will become a thing as far as TV sales go simply because that's what will happen with regards to panel manufacture so if you want a TV above a certain size then it'll be 8K or nothing in a few years, just as what happened with 1080p large screens getting usurped by 4K panels.

You know there's no market for it when their example of it still working on small TVs is using a 70" screen. Most people have TVs in the 50s or lower, and sit far further away than the recommended distance.

Which is of course why I constantly take the piss out of the rabid anti-2K upscaling brigade, I'd wager that a great many of them are watching on a display size and/or viewing distance which grinds the 4K advantage into dust.

I'm personally keen on upgrading my home theatre from my current 720p setup.

1000 nit max in that Sharp 8K unit seems underpowered. (for the future)

Not much current content blows past 1000 except for momentary specular highlights.
Things should be brighter in coming years in movies and other content!

When we attain 10,000 nits on our MicroLED displays our eyes will be in heaven @ the eye surgeon office for new eye's transplant.

For now tone mapping would do. ...Dolby Vision & HDR10+ done well in 8K.

Default Sharp now has an 8K TV in its line-up

If you have a 4K TV and are feeling great about it, Sharp has something to prick your ego — an 8K TV.

The 70-inch TV with 7680x4320 pixels hit the European markets at €11,999. But isn’t a 70-inch TV a little too big for your living room?

Sascha Lange, Sharp’s Vice-President, Marketing and Sales, had a valid reason for bringing the giant into our homes.

An 8K TV has approximately 33.18 million pixels, which means that even if the TV is huge, Lange says you can sit close enough and still view the content without pixellation. And he also quoted a survey that said sales of 60 to 69-inch TVs were growing the fastest at 37 per cent, followed by 70-plus-inch TVs at 35 per cent. Lange also said that the pictures look much sharper — almost like 3D without glasses.

The LV-70X500E from Sharp has eight HDMI ports. Four of the ports support 4K and 2K content, while the other four support 8K content. Though at present, the HDMI 2.0 supports only 4K, the 8K ports will have to wait for HDMI 2.1 cables that are just beginning to hit the market

How in the hell is waiting for HDMI 2.1 cables going to do anything with 4 HDMI 2.0 ports you have to bundle to get equivalent Gbps. Yeah they don't say that but then why would you need 4 of them if they were real 8K ports?

That's a big ten-four on your observations!!! That's a BINGO!
Another half-baked early adopter nightmare, camouflaged by the marketing folks...

Heh, didn't the earliest 'Quad Full HD' (4K ) gear also need four separate inputs to show the full image? "The more things change..." etc etc

Three prototype Panasonic 8K cameras were used today to capture a football (soccer) match at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf. With the 8K's super-wide field of view, the camera operator is able to track a live player from multiple camera angles.

I get the benefits, but, and you knew there would be a but. Im considering plopping considerable coin down on a 77" C8 soon. I mean the thing can be cal'd for all modes (SDR, HDR10 and DV), handles them all well, and is 77".

I'm just not worried about anything else until 8K and 2.1 are moving along. The last few years have been total ridiculous with format changes and display catch up.

I don't know about this industry, the goals were to achieve commercial cinema quality in ones home. With 8k hows that going to work? There are no 8K cinema's or film.

But there are 8K UHD TVs and 8K digital cameras. ...Home brew 8K movies, families, landscapes, sport events, backyards, mountains, oceans, waves, whales, all that beautiful 8K content jazz.

Besides, we love anticipating what's coming up next, talk about it, dream about it, discuss in a public forum about it, suggest what we like to see best next.

8K is good for the moral; it's the gate to real 3D 4K.

To my thinking one of the biggest benefits of 8k in live sports is on replays where the program director has the ability to enlarge a small area of the image to see details.
