Ford was fine. Good, even.
That's exactly what was off with that film. I have no idea what Spielberg was thinking. I just watched a "top ten worst digital effects" countdown, and they listed the sword fight between Shia and Cate. What's sad, is that's actually practical. They actually did the sword fight live, on top of two moving cars. Spielberg apparently found it to be a good idea to slather the film in horrible filters, cgi plants, and other ridiculous things.

It removed the tension from the film too. Everything just happens. Nothing feels real, despite all the practical effects and sets.

Give the Indy 4 'making of' a watch if you haven't done so already. He seems to be washing his hands of it during shooting, lol. Spielberg just doesn't give a hoot. He's doing whatever Lucas is asking him to do. Can't blame him tbh. He doesn't want to upset his chum.

Which goes to show why these internet lists are stupid, can't even get their facts straight.

But there are a ton of digital effects in that scene over all the practical stuff, so it definitely qualifies.

Maybe some, but if you're going to make a list like that I'd think you'd go with something that was specifically a bad CGI effect (the monkey in Lost in Space for example), but hey morons gotta clickbait with their great Crystal Skull sucks hot takes so they can get 10 clicks for their $##! blog.

It's funny that you use the monkey from Lost in Space as an example of pure CGI as they actually filmed that with a real puppet but weren't happy with the results, so pasted over it with CGI. Just like the chase scene in Crystal Skull.

They should've pasted the CGI monkey from Lost in Space over Shia Labeouf.

I have, several times. Lol. He just openly says "I loved this idea but George wanted something else, so screw it, he wins."

Haha, exactly. It was quite sad to see the passion and desire to make the best film possible just wasn't there on Spielberg's part, mostly due to Lucas' badgering. A bunch of old rich guys trying to recapture lightning in a bottle, but missing the target because their hearts just weren't in "that" place anymore.

It's sad, because Harrison was invested 100%. Lucas was just messing with Spielberg, and Spielberg accepted it. Neither of them cared. The best thing for that film would have been having someone else directing it. It's why I don't want Steven or George anywhere near 5. With Harrison back.

That's true. Bodes well for Blade Runner if Ford can muster more of that enthusiasm and interest. But yeah I agree a new director would've been ideal, not that I blame Spielberg, but just coz he didn't over-rule George.

It still makes me upset they did not use Frank Darabont's script, they should have let him direct it as well instead,we got we we got and it was very disappointing.

Essentially, the same reason why the prequels were terrible, and the OT reigns supreme.

The prequels also had some poor dialog and a few poor performances. I don't think those were big issues with Skull, though the silly tone and look of it might make it seem like they were.

Even Shia, who people love to hate, was very good in the film. The only thing questionable was Cate as the Russian leader, but her performance was still decent.

The monkeys on the other hand? I have no idea how that got past scripting, and how they ended up thinking the end result was at ALL a good idea. It doesn't even really make sense from a narrative perspective that Mutt suddenly was expert at swinging from vines. He should have just gotten knocked out or something.

Cate Blanchett was terrible in Crystal Skull, Shia was great though and Ray Winstone was OK.

Think you just gave an accurate description of what went wrong with the film.

Frank Marshall Rules Out Recasting Title Character for Fifth Indiana Jones

Fifth Indiana Jones won’t recast title character

Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm, the primary focus has been on Star Wars, and rightfully so, but there’s another fan-beloved franchise waiting in the wings for a turn at bat, Indiana Jones. Rumors have popped up online about the possibility of another actor picking up the fedora and whip, with a report earlier this year pointing at Chris Pratt as the potential successor to Harrison Ford, but nothing has ever been officially said out loud about the fate of the world’s favorite archaeologist. Now, speaking with Total Film (via Den of Geek), producer Frank Marshall says they’re not considering recasting the part at all for the fifth Indiana Jones movie.

“There are a lot of rumours,” Marshall said. “We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton… We’re not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones… we have to figure this out.”

Ironically, James Bond was a primary influence on the creation of the Indiana Jones franchise from the start, which eventually lead to the casting of Sean Connery as Henry Jones, Sr.

Steven Spielberg recently admitted himself that he will “probably” do a fifth Indiana Jones film, though no further details have been offered up about the planned adventure from the director.

A fifth Indiana Jones movie has been talked about since the most recent big screen adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, went on to gross more than $786 million worldwide when it was released in 2008. Following the sale of Lucasfilm to Walt Disney Pictures and Lucas’ own subsequent retirement, however, hints regarding plans for the future of the franchise have been few and far between. Ford, however, has suggested that he’s quite eager to reprise the role himself, despite turning 73 this year.

I hope Indiana Jones will finally go into space now, teasing us with aliens and ufo's in the fourth movie. I mean: Moonraker is also one of the best and most appreciated Bond movies. Maybe they should let J.J. Abrams or George Lucas direct it though, with Spielberg producing.

Indy 5 should start with Indy and Marion at Mutt's funeral.
