Not to mention, when I think of Samsung, I think of Joe - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...oe#post7930059 and his disciples, which invariably becomes a waste of my time.

Truth be told, and no disrespect to Samsung supporters, but for me, personally…. rather than Samsung, in terms of consumer and professional TVs/monitors I do have some brand bias as I’m much more of a Sony (http://store.sony.com/c/S_4KTV/en/c/...633370-871-270 ) , Dell (http://vimeo.com/71359646 ) or Sharp and Dolby fan (even though it’s only a 42” HD display - http://www.dolby.com/us/en/professio...200-video.html - which, b.t.w., according Joe's testing/hypothesis, by logical extension would then probably be a tremendous waste of money for a post house to invest in, as it isn’t “6 ft. wide”.

P.S. To those who inquired in earlier PM’s as to “who the heck is ‘Lou’” in reference to this past conversation - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ou#post7803154 , well, Lou hangs out at around the 2 min. mark of the Dolby clip which I linked above.

P.S. #2 – And Stee, what’s with the Chelsea supporters?...other than berating interim manager Rafael Benitez, when I watch their home matches on TV here in the U.S., the crowd seems as quiet and reserved as those at a polo match. Is it the placement of the microphones and/or Fox Soccer’s feed, or are the Chelsea supporters nearly brain dead during the action on the field?
To be fair, they are a noisy lot normally. Maybe just caught them on an off-day? Been to their place a couple of times and it is normally lively

Penton man, could you so kind as to call me Steed as the first part of my user name is named after my favourite Sunderland player (of all time) Can you guess who it is from that description? It's a close run thing between Kevin Philips and this guy, but he gets the vote. Is google your friend or can you name him without checking?

By the way, the eel bit of my username is just my name backwards.

Hah, as an aside, well I wouldn’t call Google folks really my friends, context - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...55#post7942755

Anyway, I can name him without googling to figure it out….as I am a fan of the Premiere League , both the play and the bizarre < i.e. I remember the poor guy had to have his solicitor debunk rumors that he was retiring from football to take care of his son with cancer - http://metro.co.uk/2011/09/03/former...cancer-136956/

Also, especially sorry , because now I recall you told me about the significance of your online handle….’Steed’ some time ago in the past and I had just forgotten. I hope it’s not a sign of early Alzheimer’s on my part. I’ll make a concerted attempt at self-improvement in this area in the future.

As to Chelsea, no, I’ve watched a lot of their home matches on TV and the crowd always seems very quiet. What you say makes me then think it’s the coverage (microphone field placement, needed commentator volume, etc.). That's why it’s good to have guys like you and Tob who have more firsthand experience with regards to the Prem. I can always learn something.

Word of the day…Accountability, i.e. “Third Point said it will “explore further options to create value for shareholders” and “welcomes Sony’s commitment to greater transparency and expects this will foster a culture of accountability.” - http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/sony...sonys-success/

Rather than blinded loyal-ism, I think accountability of studio executives (and, for that matter, Blu-ray forecasters…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ty#post7936998 ) is a good thing not only for shareholders, but also for consumer hobbyists; otherwise, things will never change, for instance misbehavior characterized by intentionally misleading corporate speak….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...2A#post6782166

Sheesh, even the actors are weighing in on this…http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/asht...llywood-video/

P.S.
I’m afraid to see how my Sony stock did today.

Good shout. Steed's departure was shrouded in mystery but the fans loved him up here. It sometimes felt like the ball was attached to his boots, such was his silky skills and close control. I will compile a greatest ever Sunderland team if you are interested? Maybe send it to the premier league forum? You may have heard of many of them.

As for my username, don't worry about it. I know you try to get back to everyone and we Both have busy lives.

Finally, like Tob said, we are only too happy to give you first hand feedback of the premier league. (At least, the games I attend)

I notice I misspelled Premier league in the above post in my haste to get out of the office yesterday evening and both of you were kind enough not to point that out, directly. So, here you go…from the Guinness International Champions Cup in iceman’s ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=31882 ) favorite U.S. city of them all, San Francisco, a U.S. International from Everton makes a jovial save from a Sergio Ramos-wannabee….and I’m wondering if Tim’s asking the referee with his gesturing, if that one counted toward the real deal, so that he wouldn’t have to do it all over again?

I will be very conflicted if Arsenal picks up *JAWS* in a transfer, for, on the one hand, we need a good, productive striker badly but, on the other, the guy apparently has a biting problem when in close quarters with others. I would recommend defenders from all other teams to make sure their tetanus and hepatitis shots are still viable.

Maybe Suarez misunderstood the manager when he suggested they need more bite?

Ergo -

4K Proof of Concept in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup - http://www.tvbeurope.com/main-conten...t#.UgH3qZK1GSp

But what the article doesn’t mention (and what the P-Man is here for) is to inform you of the significant challenge involved in covering sports with all 4K cameras (despite the manufacturer - http://www.avsforum.com/t/1483393/tr...#post_23594439 )

unless, innovative parts (like Sony’s recently manufactured adapter making it possible to fit traditional broadcast lenses designed for cameras with 2/3-inch sensors onto 4K cinema cameras which have a single full-frame sensor) and skillful camerawork is utilized because of the inherent deficiency of single chip 4K cameras for sports ( i.e. they have a shallow depth of field).

saprano - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ap#post7719340 I haven’t forgotten answering the question as to why they look like crap, i.e.

I’ll get to doing at least a cursory explanation (eventually) when I have more time. E.G., different mastering environments, etc. It’s not Blu-ray per se, as high bit rate Blu-ray can hold up *fairly well* on reasonably sized (very small theatrical) screens, but rather, ‘the crap’ is due to the challenge of projecting a Blu-ray movie with a D-Cinema projector.

So, what is the practical meaning of this ^, if only that new membership to the hobby should now realize that when they read a technical paper, like so - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...on#post7870215 which, as the evidentiary source for those guidelines, contains abundant References listing “SMPTE” this…”SMPTE” that, etc., that SMPTE stands for Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Anyway, well, the practical meaning is that for those consumers who in the immediate future decide to join the 4K revolution by purchasing a new 4K TV with the caveats…the display has a high quality up-converting engine which processes 1080p Blu-rays <- which are mastered well from a good source, (such as, generally, but not limited to - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=212350) that future purchasing of high quality HD Blu-rays will remain a pretty darn good investment…..in terms of perceived resolution, at least.

Keeping with the SMPTE (a nonprofit organization) theme and the fact that this week I’m feeling a little sad for our 3D brethren, given a seemingly continuous amount of bad press and bylines these days, e.g. “Among sliding popularity of 3D movies” ( http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ularity-601962 ) Hang in there guys, glasses-free 3D TVs are on the horizon.

Anyway, SMPTE has almost finalized a new amendment to the additional frame rate standard (of 2009) for D-Cinema, which will include:
3D48@2K (500Mb/sec)
3D50@2K (500Mb/sec)
3D60@2K (500Mb/sec)

So, at least the premier standards organization in the world still thinks it’s (3D) relevant.

I’m thinking though at least for filmmakers or hobbyists who have their own 4K cameras that with the SD slot pictured on the front of the device, at least if you wanted to have or conveniently pass out your 4K shot stuff on physical media to friends and such, you may be able to use high speed 32 GB SD cards which are not that expensive.
