Looks like he's bare-chested under that robe. The pic is blurry.

He's wearing a tan colored shirt just like in the film. Here's another poster, which makes that clearer (I like the colors in this one better than the other one)

The 4K SDR version shows a tiny bit of more detail, it's a tiny bit sharper than the 4K HDR version. But considering how much of a huge improvement the HDR and expanded color gamut are here, trade-off in extremely fine detail is more than worthy it. It still looks, like, 90% or 95% as good as it could potentially be. It still looks amazing.

But the only way this can actually look as good as it can be, without any trade-offs, is if they do a whole new restoration from scratch. Maybe even a new scan, considering how technology for scanning 70mm film improved a lot since 2012, if I'm not mistaken. But considering how insanely expensive and hard the 2012 restoration already was (to call Lawrence Of Arabia's OCN insanely damaged is an understatement), it makes sense that Sony didn't want to do a whole new restoration again so soon, it wasn't worthy it.

When you watch the Lawrence Of Arabia 4K disc, please don't forget to say your impressions here.

The roadshow art is still my favorite. Here's a nice copy for anyone with access to a quality printer

Couldn't agree more!

All the movies I have in my collection are movies that I love and regardless of how the packaging is, I would buy them ALL. Some of them have horrendous covers too. It boggles my mind that someone was skip out on their favorite films because of a cover. I just don't get it....

Movies aren't in my preferred CD cases anyway, so crappy covers are whatever. Still like to make fun of them, though.

I ended up buying a more expensive version of "The Exorcist" (1973) because the standard U.S. UHD Blu-ray artwork really sucks...I mean like; BAD!

though it would've been at least a bit easier considering they didn't even need to rescan the negative, instead just using the same base scan as before

OK yes, you have a point. If they didn't apply that filter, it would have looked more like film but then as I've read, we would have seen more of the film elements/not so perfect condition of the film which would have been fine by me...at least it would then be more film like even with some flaws in possibly a few areas.

Even if they did it that way, we'd probably complain they didn't take the time to fix those issues and that it would need more work. So I guess we have to pick our poison. Filtered look with a flawless movie presentation or filmatic look with a few flaws.

I'll take the few flaws...at least it would look more like film that way!

Instead we get people complaining (steelbooks only, steelbook ugly, pq is good, not great, price is too high, I'll wait for it to drop, etc) Regardless, if this gets released five more times, there will be someone complaining they missed it. It's no secret that Sony steelbooks are limited. One easy way is to sub to this thread and the helpful people on this forum will give you heads up.

You've just made an assumption here about all of us who missed out to try and make excuse for your snipey post about how we should have to pay elevated prices.

It's nothing to do with the packaging, I buy all my films based on the film primarily. I don't get the whole packaging put me off, I'm not a fan of tat personally, so steel books don't do it for me but not enough to put me of buying a film the calibre of LOA

The film was not made widely available here in the UK and I struggled to find a copy and before I knew it had inflated prices on Ebay etc.

Also the next possible chances outside of this were brief chances and I came on here to find it was available and then it wasn't.

Like I said I've ordered it via CD Imports and await what comes from that.

I think that's ridiculous, and most likely you live in the US right? Not only is the packaging more expensive than a normal release would be, but there are added high import fees. I would be probably spending £50> to get it and that's if I was able to in the first place. I only started buying 4k discs in 2021, and I'm not the only one who upgrade recently or even is yet to upgrade. Those people deserve to pay extortionate prices as well? If I was paying these prices for all films then I would have to be far more selective.

Doggone it. I went to preorder it to with something for free shipping and it went out of stock as I was placing the order.

What is up with Sony doing this with the boxset titles and keeping the standalones OOS or simply never making standalones?
