Did you order the Uk Steel to get a different packaging, since I assume you already have a copy of it which you based your review from 2020 on?

There'll probably be a new restoration soon, now that we're just getting the current one. I hope we're thanked by the community for our sacrifice.

No, the amount of trouble i've had trying to aquire this current 4K version is crazy, if they do ever redo this movie with better HDR and grain they have to make the damn thing widely available rather than these stupid limited edition runs. I still may not even be able to get this movie, depending on if the Spanish Amazon site has enough copies to fulfil my order.

This current version is the 60th anniversary edition, i'm guessing you would have to wait for the 70th anniversary version right, 2030ish?

It's to have a copy handy without having to rummage around and dig out the CC boxset.

They could have solved it using DNR by lowering brightness.

Then they could have the director approve it (if he would have been alive), and called it director's intent that it should be that dark. Similar to e.g. Heat, Donnie Darko, and Blue Velvet on 4K BD.

Because lower brightness means lower contrast, which means noise/grain does not get noticed as much.

I'm a little worried about what is happening with my pre-order for the LoA Steelbook from Amazon UK. My pre-order has a notice on it that it will arrive on Monday. However, there is no dispatch email coming from Amazon yet to confirm it. Have any of you guys been in a situation where you pre-order a 4K disc like this one from Amazon, it will say it will arrive on a certain day without giving you a dispatch email to confirm it which could then lead it to becoming cancelled?

Sure, those things are literally invisible on the 4K SDR transfer, where it looks more like the glossy 65mm splendour we'd expect. But one is not the other, Sony loves their Light Cannon™️ approach to HDR (even tho Lawrence is not as bad as some, it's still plenty bright in the averages) so it was always going to be deployed here and they should've been more cognisant of what it would do.

I mean, the excellent restoration notes in the CC boxsets often note that extra work was needed to port an existing 4K resto of whatever film into HDR space, obviously they didn't have the time or money to re-restore the whole film here but spending a bit more cash than normal to rework the skies in the initial desert scenes - especially that all-timer of a reveal at the well - would've perhaps been the wiser course of action.

It won't. I'm telling you this now. Hell, they're barely available for us as it is, let alone people from other countries.

Ginza delivered a copy for me yesterday. Finally have one, and at 40 €. Took a quick look at a few scenes, and I think it's good the 50th anniversary Blu ray is included. I think the 4K looks outstanding, but the Blu might be a more traditionalist approach. Looking forward to having four uninterrupted hours to watch the whole movie in 4K.

Yeah sometimes i prefer "the lesser version" the recent Kingdom of Heaven 4K release for me looks off (overproduced) compared to the standard Blu Ray version.

Regarding the grain issue, you could argue it adds authenticity to the movie, if those scenes with the grainy skies always looked like that originally people on here would be arguing that they applied too much DNR if they removed them from the Blu Ray releases. Anyway if i ever manage to get copy i'll see for myself which version i prefer.

I was recently watching my Aliens Blu Ray and comparing how it looked on my PS4 vs 4K Sony player and the grain was less pronounced on the 4K player so maybe LOA wont look that bad for me. If you turn off HDR in the settings would there be an improvement in the image, maybe the answer is watch the movie in 4K SDR.

I'm telling you, from experience, you aren't getting it. You better be prepared to buy it elsewhere.

I mean there's only really Ebay left, and you are paying like 50/60 plus for the movie, if you are right then maybe i'll just get the regular Blu or wait till they rerelease it again in the future.

Get it elsewhere, is it not available in any other country? Pretty sure UK, Italy, Germany, are getting it too.

The Spain steelbook has the wrong bonus disc anyway with missing extras.

In Italy it's been exclusive to Eagle's store for the past year and a half, and they don't ship internationally.

I'm in the UK and it's sold out everywhere, checked the Italian Amazon site and it's sold out, the German one has it for 50 euros. What's the bonus disc missing on the Spanish version?

Well... that's a crucial piece of information that I wasn't aware of. What's missing?
