Worth noting that the 4K restorations of both Lawrence of Arabia and Vertigo were done around the same time, as well as Singin' in the Rain, Jaws, and Rear Window.

But Lawrence Of Arabia's OCN was in the worst condition of them all if I'm not mistaken. Imperfect as it is, the newest restoration is still a miracle.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I missed out on the 4K because I don't like steelbooks and don't want the Columbia box set and was waiting for a standard 4K release. If I knew those were the only releases this was getting I would have just gotten the steelbook. I hope I can snag a copy of the new release day one.

But Lawrence of Arabia is the only one of those filmed on 70mm. I believe 70mm scanning was not as advanced as 35mm scanning in 2012.

Different films, different ages, different conditions of the source elements, different formats, different people/studios handling the respective restorations. Not sure what you're thinking is worth noting ref: Lawrence looking as it does.

From what I could find, FotoKem scanned the 65mm camera negative at 8K using Imagica XE scanners. Specs seem to indicate it's capable of 16-bit capture. That would put it on par with the Lasergraphics Director.

Maybe Sony could give the UHD another go at some point, but it gets to the point where I'd assume the funds would be better spent on the many films that aren't even on Blu-ray yet let alone a film with a 4K restoration that's still my benchmark for theatrical presentation quality of a classic film.

HDR and WCG are really where the 4K disc truly is levels above the blu-ray, as amazing as the blu-ray is.

So someone who gets into 4k let's say two years from now deserves to pay ebay prices...

No offense, but people deserve a widely available standard release. Not one stuck inside an expensive box or an ugly steelbook that seems to sell out so rapidly that a lot of folks don’t even know about it until it’s gone.
A widely available standard release, you know… the lavish treatment Sony has given to anything from My Best Friends Wedding to I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Yeah I wanted to get this re-release but I wasn't able to check if it came up on Amazon until just now and it seems it sold out in a few hours? I've even set a calendar reminder for September 5th because that was the original rumored release. Not sure how I deserve ebay prices haha. I'd get it from another store but none of them seem to ship to Europe. A standard widely available release would be most welcome.

You can still try to backorder it from importCDs. I'm not sure why Sony made this reprint so scarce. It's also frustrating that it uses the same UPC as the previous release, making it harder to find listings specifically for this new one.

They do ship internationally, but I'm not sure if that includes Sweden.

I'm refreshing pages every day looking for this. Left it by the wayside the first time around as I thought it was truly hideous like many other posters. I generally don't bother with steelbooks unless they look really good or the disc has some unusual feature not available in standard releases. Learned my lesson now, although whether this is going to appear in Canada is not clear to me. It did the first time. I note that there is still stock of Bridge on the River Kwai hanging around out there, probably explained by the fact that it had two standard releases.

Hi, if you are in Canada, you could try Videomatica in Vancouver BC. They might ship Canada wide. I have ordered a copy online from them but am local so can pick-up and avoid shipping costs. Usually have to go to US to pick up titles but this one not widely available yet. Maybe will be later? But figure with exchange rate and gas prices to go pickup over border, just decided to buy from Videomatica to save the extra hassle.

Two chances to buy a movie and if you missed it both times then yes. The pre order was up for about a month before it sold out(I believe it was longer the first time). If anyone was a true fan, they would have gotten a copy either the first or second time. Instead we get people complaining (steelbooks only, steelbook ugly, pq is good, not great, price is too high, I'll wait for it to drop, etc) Regardless, if this gets released five more times, there will be someone complaining they missed it. It's no secret that Sony steelbooks are limited. One easy way is to sub to this thread and the helpful people on this forum will give you heads up.

Wasn't sure about the steelbook either but I do think it looks better in person. It's not as flat looking and cartoonish as the pics online. Bit of a metallic sheen as well

So did the re release of the steelbook sell out? I can’t find anything for it and it releases 9/26.

To Sn140boi: There's a back order for the 2022 release showing on importcds.com which is live and hopefully links to the September release.
