Well, it's back to being "backordered," but I went ahead anyway and purchased it. We'll see if I ever get it. Promo code PLUNGE still works. $28.78 after tax seems to be the best deal around, and I'm willing to wait for it in exchange. I have a HUGE backlog of discs to get through as it is. (Realistically, I probably never will.)

In any case, this is a really weird release strategy by Sony, playing extremely hard to get.

I think Sony just honestly has no idea how to release pre-1970 movies on 4k (and Blu-ray a lot of the time too) other than to put it in a boxset with the newer movies.

Oh, I think they know what they're doing.

Deep discount was about to ship and cancelled because my payment method asked for authorisation which I promptly gave. Gutted

Just received my copy from ImportCDs in the mail a couple hours ago! It is indeed a 4-disc set.

But it's one of those steelbooks with the deep, rigid hubs that make removing the discs feel like you're going to damage them. And since it has 4 discs, it's got that hinged, double-sided holder flap in the middle---so trying to get those middle two out feels risky for the discs below.

Very firm downward pressure on the hubs just wasn't enough, and I didn't want to scrape at the edge of the discs or bend them too much while lifting at the edges---so I resorted to the trick of putting an old blu-ray on top, and then popping them both out at once, which helped greatly.

But then I saw (and felt!) a deep scratch in the middle of the steelbook spine (right through the "of" in the title) which I hadn't noticed before unwrapping it. Maybe it was there and hidden underneath the wrapper, but I suspect that I did it myself while struggling to get the discs out---I put it on the countertop since I needed a firm, unyielding surface below it due to the amount of pressure required, with a paper towel underneath, but that might have slid away as I struggled.

Very disappointing, since I'd been admiring what great shape it had arrived in, with no dents or anything. I'm all for discs staying in place & secure, but at a certain point it just becomes completely counter-productive, jeopardizing the discs & case even more than it's protecting them.

Those are the GOOD 4-disc SteelBook cases. Not sure what you want, the dual stacker?

Of course it's much better than a dual stacker. But the hubs are just way too deep and rigid, with no center button you can press to help ease the hub's teeth slightly inward when you want to remove the disc.

I did yes but:

a) I don't know if it will be fulfilled.
b) It is almost twice the price.
c) I'm based in the UK so the expected delivery of early-mid October will mean I won't be able to combine with existing reshipper delivery, and therefore will cost me a whole bunch of extra in shipping.

I doubt it was you since it sounds like it's in the middle of the spine, which makes it likely it got hit with a box cutter.

Their output of old movies is awful. A couple of movies in the Columbia boxsets (which always contain as many modern movies) is so disappointing when other labels release old movies almost regularly. I don't even mind buying the Columbia boxsets, but it's so little.

I don't understand. So you gave them authorization right away and then what happened? Was your payment method denied?

Ordered with the credit card, it was pending initially, then when they went to ship and charge the card it flagged whatever anti fraud measure is in place. I gave the approval but assuming the mere fact that it didn't immediately get approved led them to cancel my order.

I placed my order on Bullmoose at the same time as the Evangelion 3.0+1.0 4K, which isn't coming out for another month, so I assume they won't ship until that's ready? Fright Night 4K steelbook was in that order too.

I think Bullmoose ships separately as items become available.

Anyone knows if importcd splits the order as items become available? I have this on backorder with another 4K which comes out only next month. I fear by then this may not be available.

Just a reminder that you should never be shocked to be reamed over by DD at their slightest whim. Amazon would have sent you an email asking you to resolve your payment issues and held the shipment to allow you time to do so.

And they have easy, free returns.

Then there's the price guarantee.

If you still want to avoid Amazon for reasons, there are better and more reliable small retailers than DD.

Yeah DD got good prices but you dont want to bank on them for anything important, nor expect any decent customer support if something goes wrong. At one point I returned some sealed items within the return window and they tried to short me like over $150 or something by refunding the wrong amount, and I had to have Paypal step in to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately in Australia DD are literally the only option for most releases.

Lesson learned with DD then. I just want a copy of the film for a reasonable price. Not too fussed about the retailer just want the film.

Hopefully amazon pull through or maybe I can grab one on ebay or some other retailer. Actually I saw copies on ebay the other day but already had 2 on order so thought it was a little overkill. Should have gone for it!
