No local Targets near me. I would have to take public transportation, which I refuse. I went to one Fresh N Save Supermarket and one Rite Aid store; both were sold out of toothpaste. To be honest, both stores were cleaned of almost everything. Bare empty shelves. Haven't these stores restocked by now??

I already risked myself going to those two stores and refuse to keep going elsewhere, so I gave up after that and went home. I'll be ordering from Amazon and Fresh Direct this week to buy what I need. Sigh!!

Should I not be allowed to do that?

If you limit people anymore I don't think riots would be too far behind.
ordering items/food online
digital versions of movies/games

things to keep you entertained can be had without having to leave your home. people have become too dependent on non-essential things, as it is. maybe it'd do a little good for people to not be able to do whatever they want (within the law, obviously) or go wherever they want.

i've read posts where people are seeing their neighbors and kids outside playing, being together as a family, simply because they're in a "shelter in place" mode. normally, this wouldn't be happening (according to these people). is it really all that bad?

parents worked, kids went to school. now...parents aren't working, kids aren't in school...therefore, they're getting to spend some quality time together. maybe people will be able to be reminded what it means to be a parent/son/daughter/brother/sister/aunt/uncle/neighbor/etc. to me, that's not a bad thing. granted, i already have a great relationship with my family and my neighbors. so i haven't been lacking in that dept. but i know my oldest niece has been able to spend a lot more time with her 2 boys since she hasn't been working for a little over a week. and i know she and they both appreciate the time together. also, i've seen more people out walking in my neighborhood than i've seen, before. i've seen more people outside doing things vs. seeing hardly anybody else when i drive or walk down the street.

so yes, you should be allowed certain things. but going to a store to get do or buy those things isn't a necessity when the internet is at your fingertips.

that said, freedom is a right we all should have. the freedom to go where we want, when we want, to do what we want (again, within the law...and within reason). but being stuck at home isn't so bad, imo.

NYC (the current epicenter) actually may have already peaked.

Other Burroughs showing similar trend suggesting peaking is occurring...and recall, the peak is only confirmed in hindsight.

Mate, we had over 15 years of rationing in the United Kingdom during and after World War II. It ended in the mid '50s. Apart from food, things like clothing, fuel, and soap were rationed. Couples had plastic wedding cakes.

We want to consume things because we've been indoctrinated to do so, "a healthy person needs to consume, to be a consumer". Yes, we feel better consuming, but it's a high that can be weaned away.

Necessities are necessities, luxuries are luxuries. Most have us have lived in a World were certain things were seasonal, we may have to go back to that to some degree, we may not have a 24/7 365 days a year option for a while.

Yesterday in Derbyshire police had to break up a karaoke party of nearly 30 people, that's 30 people that believed that their personal enjoyment trumped the safety of others.

Consumerism can be restricted and people can learn to deal with it. What can't be dealt with, socially, is a purpose, which is the bigger concern. That's the primary lesson of the New Deal. People will need to go to their jobs and rediscover their productivity and ability to contribute to society far sooner than they will need to go to Best Buy.

The coronavirus appears to have jumped the species barrier to infect Britain's real Prime Minister, Dominic Cummings. A "career psychopath" (David Cameron) and eugenics enthusiast who is credited with saying “herd immunity, protect the economy, and if that means some pensioners die, too bad.”

And with that said it's important to remember that we weren't expected to see the results of social distancing measures for several weeks. Keep it together, folks.

Depending on how long things play out with lockdown, i do agree that once we start hitting say 3 months of lockdown and warmer weathers are here, i can see people revolting and going out against advice and problems happening. If people are poor, can't pay rents or bills and can't afford a fine. What does a piece of paper saying you owe £5k or £5 million matter to you.

Asking people to stay indoors is only going to work for so long and this is a bandage solution at best right now we're going along with.

Johnson & Johnson says testing of coronavirus vaccine to begin by September

Quote:
Johnson & Johnson said on Monday human testing of its experimental vaccine for the coronavirus would begin by September and that it could be available for emergency use authorization in early 2021.

J&J also said it had committed more than $1 billion of investment along with U.S. agency Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority to co-fund vaccine research.

Not exactly reassuring is it that a cure is being touted for 2021 when we're just reaching the end of March now and are in lockdown for like 3 weeks already.
