I don't expect things to get back to normal until sometime in summer if we're being honest here. By the time stores do reopen things will be different. Lots of more store closures coming in the next 12 months.

It'll be a lot longer than summer...

Once the virus peaks and new cases are negligible then the threat (as China, South Korea etc. are now experiencing) will be new clusters of infections from visitors from other countries...

Come on! Let's be more optimistic than that. I have vacation plans in June and am hoping I can still go through with it and not have to cancel anything.

Here's an interesting article on the Spanish flu.

Why the Second Wave of the 1918 Spanish Flu Was So Deadly

Quote:
...
Not only was it shocking that healthy young men and women were dying by the millions worldwide, but it was also how they were dying. Struck with blistering fevers, nasal hemorrhaging and pneumonia, the patients would drown in their own fluid-filled lungs.

Only decades later were scientists able explain the phenomenon now known as “cytokine explosion.” When the human body is being attacked by a virus, the immune system sends messenger proteins called cytokines to promote helpful inflammation. But some strains of the flu, particularly the H1N1 strain responsible for the Spanish flu outbreak, can trigger a dangerous immune overreaction in healthy individuals. In those cases, the body is overloaded with cytokines leading to severe inflammation and the fatal buildup of fluid in the lungs.
...

I doubt they’ll keep the stores closed that long. I also don’t think the majority of people will stand for it honestly, especially when the weather is nicer.

This. There's going to be a mass revolt once the weather starts turning nicer. People will flock to the beaches and other crowded spaces. People won't stay cooped up inside for another few months, let alone 12. The country will need to re-open sooner rather than later.

Anyone that thinks the virus will be "over" by the summer is dreaming. They haven't even come up with a vaccine/cure yet, and may not until next year.

I myself was starting to make vacation plans before the pandemic started, but completely put them on hold. I have 0 plans to go anywhere this summer. There is no way in hell I'm getting on a plane & travelling anywhere while this virus is still floating around - even if the powers that be say it's OK to fly.

Good lock.

Before that happens, Trump hotels and casinos will be open for business.
...Hollywood movie theaters too.

Damn. Just imagine if we had a countrywide mandatory lockdown that started two weeks ago instead of all these “suggestions” and “guidelines” and “voluntary” things. We’d probably be almost done with this virus.

This is kinda cool...you're already online posting about this virus...why not help stop it at the same time?

Unless you plan to stop people from traveling to/from here for the next year+, we wouldn't be done with anything. Also good luck trying to enforce a mandatory lockdown of a country this size.

Yep because we've still got people running to "essential" stores to buy non essential items.

Just imagine if we had restricted entry to the US (primarily air travel), to include China, earlier on.

10% of 150,000 (rounded number) is 15,000

1% is 1,500
2% is 3,000

Say the world is careful, and we only view best cases scenarios to keep the spirit up; is 100,000 a reasonable number? ...Too much? We're 97,500 from that. ...That is quite a lot.

Lee, where are you going on Easter, April 12...two weeks exactly from now?
You think we'll be over 100,000...worldwide?

I couldn’t even find toothpaste when I went to the store this weekend. Face it, all the essential items are sold out!!

We are all stuck just ordering everything at Amazon for inflated prices.

Did you check your local Walgreens or the equivalent?

I think itll open sooner as well. People are just not going to stay inside during nicer weather, most don't even do it now. And with nicer weather people will want to buy clothes ect… so they definitely wont put up with stores being closed. Its only a matter of time I think before some people reach the breaking point.
