What is the best John Wayne blu ray so far? My wife is a fan, and wasn't really buying into the whole HD thing until she started watching El Dorado in HD on tv.

So, are there are standout Wayne blu rays? She'd like a decent movie with a high quality HD image.

Thanks.

Not a fan of the big guy, but The Searchers has outstanding PQ for a movie that old.

Warner's "The Searchers" is easily the best John Wayne Blu-ray around. I can't wait for the other John Wayne movies that he's done for Warner, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, and Universal!

Like everyone else said, "The Searchers" is easily one of the best looking vintage transfers of all time (not to mention one of the best films of all time). "The Cowboys" is a significant upgrade over the DVD and one of Wayne's best performances to boot. "Rio Bravo" looks good, but I heard the elements weren't that hot from the get go, so it's likely the best the film will ever look unless someone comes up with a new restoration technique. "How the West Was Won" comes this summer, but the Duke's only in it for about two minutes. Buy "The Searchers" instead, pilgrim.

Default John Wayne movies on BD

Hi - new member here.... sorry if this has already been discussed. A cursory search didn't find anything.

After seeing 'The Searchers' on BD and being blown away by how great it looked, I was wondering if any other Wayne/Ford movies were scheduled for release.

I'm particularly interested in 'The Quiet Man' - growing up in an Irish household, this was ALWAYS in the VCR..... and I reckon it would look fantastic in full HD Glory!

cheers,

Sean

The Cowboys and Ria Bravo have been released on Blu-Ray. Very good movies. The Longest Day is also out on Blu-Ray and that's a very good movie too.
How The West Was Won will be out on Blu-Ray soon.

I'd love to see The Quiet Man too but that film desperately needs a restoration if it can be done.

I'll take John Wayne's Dirty Harry-like movies on Blu-ray: 1974's "McQ" and 1975's "Brannigan"!

Now that we are finally seeing some titles from Paramount, I would guess that a lot of John Wayne films will be coming. From looking at my DVD collection, most of his westerns belong to Paramount.

The Cowboys blu-ray really impressed me with its PQ. The movie is also excellent.
