Warner Bros Justice League (2017)

There were a bunch of old threads discussing the old Justice League project, and now that Geoff Johns is the head of DC and they've created a more Marvel Studios type of direction I think we'll hear the game plan soon...I thought we'd start a discussion on what we would all LOVE to see;

Quote:
Geoff Johns spoke at WonderCon today, and there were a few interesting bits said involving the future of DC’s superhero movie adaptations. First off, Johns explained his new role as the CCO of DC Comics, stating that he’s “in charge of the creative consistency of the DC Universe” and promised that we’re “going to see a lot more DC Movies.”

The most interesting bit came about when a fan asked if DC and Warner Bros were planning to do something like Marvel is doing with The Avengers, with the goal being a Justice League of America live-action feature film.

Johns responded nervously:

Can’t talk about it yet, but we’ll talk in San Diego.”

Johns is talking about the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con International which takes place in July. It might be easy to read too much into Johns’ brief statement, but at very least, we should know more about the future of DC Comics movies this Summer. At a later point during the Q and A, Johns teased that we’ll “see in the coming months how [the comics are] going to be better integrated” into the movie side of the DC Universe, and that he is “excited about it.”

When asked if he is still working on the big screen adaptation of The Flash, Johns responded “We’re developing it right now — The Flash movie. Can’t say anything about it right now, I’m sorry.” Most of Johns answers reguarding the future of the DC movie universe resulted in the same type of response. Later someone asked if there would be a Wonder Woman movie. Geoff responded “Look — Obviously, everyone at DC wants to see it, I would like to see it, but can’t talk about it right now.
What do you think? Comic Con is coming soon. Do you think DC/WB will have a game plan a la Marvel/Avengers? It's a great time to be a comic book fan.

Seems like Geoff Johns speaking at WonderCon was simply him saying they'll talk about stuff later. That is cool that they are trying to get their game together.

As for Justice League, I can't see them getting to that for many years since both Superman and Green Lantern are in their own movie-verses. I think two things would be really good to do. 1) shrink the league down to 4-5 members instead of 7. Either that or make a couple characters very secondary with limited screen time. 2) Instead of copying Marvel's plan with setting up each hero, just start with one Superman movie with Flash (or Batman or someone) having a large role. They can say something about working well as a team. Then begin Justice League with gathering the team (first 10 minutes).

I have just always pictured it like that.

So who would you whittle it down to?

If Nolan keeps everyone in their own universe, then how are they going to bring them all together effectively for a League of Justice movie/

I don't know what their plan is with this. The current Batman is obviously seperate. I think Green Lantern might be open enough since there was originally going to be a cameo so it could connect to others. Nolan said Superman would be the only hero but I wonder if DC is attempting to alter that since it is still in the early stages.

I would have Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Batman; though, I can honestly see a JLA movie with out Batman.

Wha do you think they plan on doing? How would you do it?

Well, they've been talking about a Flash movie so that's probably next as far as new introductions go.

We've already had Batman, Superman and now Green Lantern (coming). There will probably be another of each of these before a Justice League Movie. I know he says they'd like a Wonder Woman movie, but I think it would be best to see her first in a Justice League movie or as co-hero in another movie.

I think Green Lantern, Batman 3, New Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern 2 Then Justice League (bringing in a few minors like you said that could have spin-offs afterward).

I'm not sure they could do a successful Aquaman (or Namor for Marvel) movie.

Very interested in hearing what they're planning. I'm not a huge fan of DC but if they make them accessible to everyone I'm in!

I do not foresee this happening anytime soon, if ever. The costs alone to get all those characters on screen would be enormous. The budget would have to dictate what type of story you could tell, and that eliminates most of the really cool JLA stories.

But a movie featuring two or three heroes might be very doable. Green Arrow and Green Lantern for instance in a buddy movie, or Green Lantern with the Flash. Batman and Superman would be the obvious choice, but that will not even be considered until Nolan and Bale are finished with the Batman franchise.

I still want to see an animated movie of the Kingdom Come comic.

I 1000% believe we will never see a Justice League movie that includes Batman (and lets face it, Justice League without Batman = major failure) until the series is rebooted yet again years down the line.

Nolan has emphatically stated that his Wayne does not live in a world of super heroes. Batman is the only lunatic out there in a suit saving people
He has also said the same thing about Superman.

And like Vegeta said, Lantern is in his own secluded movie-verse as well.

They may want it to happen, but it won't for a long, long time.

I think that is a good idea. I just do not see a WW movie standing on its own.

Definitely. They could have a some minor characters too like in Justice League Unlimited. Whatever happened to the Green Arrow film? He could have a small part.

I agree about the water characters. I can't wait for their announcements, should be good stuff. I think we comic book fans have some really good years ahead of us.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Nolan would be done after the third Batman. If that's the case, he could then be included in anything. No reboot required. Whether or not Bale reprises the role.

I don't know of any of the Justice League stories, but why would they be so cost prohibitive? Wouldn't be just like the Avengers? Use some of the villains already introduced? You have to admit that as costly as it would be, it would make a TON of cash.

Yes, Nolan's Batman will be finished after Batman Begins 3.

But to include Wayne in a Justice League movie would mean another actor besides Bale (he won't do any more after without the rest of the 'gang'). Which effectively means a reboot of Batman (unless they go the stupid root of "oh, same universe, he's just a different guy...and now he has nipples!")

Superman being in his own universe could change as the movie isn't even close to being filmed or anything yet; Batman, however, will not.

You guys are obviously better versed in DC than I, but I really don't think they should reboot Batman after the third. I think Nolan has created a great Universe and by changing actors, it would/should be less like changing to Val Kilmer/George Clooney and more like changing to Daniel Craig (if you get my meaning).

If you get the right guy and continue with compelling stories, it works. ((IMO))

Also, Superman was to cameo in Green Lantern. He was in the original script. Has it ever been said that this ISN'T happening?

They would not include Batman for fear of diluting his movie franchise. It is why Smallville could not use a young Bruce Wayne. I believe there is a much better chance of a Titans movie. Studios love using younger characters as the actors demand less paychecks and it will capture the interest of the key younger demographics. Look at Fox shifting the next X-Men project into some Mutant Academy vehicle.

Of course...Daniel Craig's movie was a reboot though

I personally hope WB uses common sense doesn't try to throw Nolan's Batman into a Justice League movie after he's done with the next movie

I would like a Justice League movie and Batman to be in it...but not this Batman we currently have. The way the entire Nolanverse is set up....just doesn't mesh with a guy from outer space who shoots fire from his eyes and gets sick from a little green rock.

Of course, I'm not a WB Exec, so who cares what I think

As for the Superman cameo in Lantern, yes, that has been confirmed to have been dropped for a while now.

They even had a Bat-embargo (to an extent) on the freaking Justice League cartoon!

It was announced that Amanda Waller will be in Green Lantern but she's more of an all over DC character. Kind of like how Nick Fury ties all the Avengers together, Waller is kinda the same in the DC universe.

Except she's usually a villian.

So will the Avengers dilute the Iron Man franchise? Thor? I guess DC is just different that way?

You got me there But you know what I meant. There's a right way and a wrong way. I also think that there's only so many times you can reboot a character. Seems like 3 is too many. When Downey Jr hangs up his helmet, are we going to have to sit through another origin? I hadn't thought about it until now.

Why couldn't the 4th Batman movie be Batman/Superman with a new actor? ((Also Bale has stated on different occasions that he could go either way once Nolan leaves))

That's why that character's casting threw me off.

It's supposed to be a closed universe, yet they are going to put her in GL?

Basically...Marvel = smart

DC = NOT (at least thus far)

I'm sure we will see another Iron Man eventually....but he is owned by Marvel Studios, not another company leasing him out. I'd say we won't see a reboot of any of those properties for a good long time.

As for Batman being rebooted yet again, people will still go see it because its Batman. Which means WB wouldn't rule it out.

Has anything been rebooted twice btw? I Am Legend is the only one that springs to mind immediately of being made like 4 or 5 times.

(IMO) It just doesn't work within the confines of the established world to have Superman or Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter (who needs a movie btw!) with Wayne's Batman.

Interesting, never saw that interview. The only one I knew of was the one where he said he HAD to come back for Batman 3 regardless of if Nolan was back or not

Have two separate Batmans in two simultaneous film universes. Kind of like how The Batman cartoon was running at the same time the DCAU's Justice League series was winding down. Two Batmans can exist in two separate universes in the same medium as long as there is ample distinction. Play Batman in the Justice League film as older, a different actor, and bring in some of the extended Bat-family, and it would be pretty clearly not related to the Nolan films. Maybe make him a little lighter (even though Nolan's Batman films aren't quite as dark as they could be), although I would avoid things like jokey gadgets, puns, or eyebrows/nipples.

Anyway, it's not like Nolan is churning out a new Batman film every year. They could throw out a Batman in a Justice League during the downtime easily, although I guess a Justice League film wouldn't be released until after Nolan's third going with Batman anyway.

I fear a JLA film wouldn't do much better in the box office than Watchmen did.

A "reboot" isn't really necessary for Batman. We don't need to see his origins and such. Just put him in JLA, different actor, different costume, and boom, different Batman.

Martian Manhunter to me, is not an important character. He is who I was thinking of when I said have a couple background characters and focus on 4-5 heroes. That's just my opinion. If they do make a movie for him, I'll gladly see it.

I think it would do great in the box office. JLA has many known superheroes, some of whom will have had success in theaters already (Batman, Superman, GL). Many people didn't know Watchmen and they did not know what to think of it.

IMO to have a good Justice League story you would need

Superman
Green Lantern (whatever version)
Flash (again whatever version)
Wonder Woman

Batman can be a supporting character in that movie. Batman was never a true member of JL, too much of an outsider for that, even in the animated series you could see that. You could make him as a supporting charater, there once in a while because of his friendship with Clark (and that is a true brother-brother releationship they have even if they are so different in basic characters)
