Pretty but dumb.

Not a good combo, unfortunately.

It'll probably be fine.

If you have issues, I ended up replacing all my HDMI cables with legit certified cables from Monoprice. They have various lengths up to 20'. They all work perfectly with my 4K player, 4K receiver and 4K projector. All working on HDCP 2.2 with zero drop outs since I got them 6 months or so ago.

Glad to see the positive reviews about 60fps, not buying though. I got over buying movies I did not want to see because they had cool stuff in them years ago.

This man posts some of the worst reviews. 90% of this review is a history lesson, the other 9% is telling you go buy it. The last 1% tells us that it's groundbreaking with zero detail on HOW.

Pre-ordered a while ago and I got charged on my credit card today.
I hope it means Walmart shipped my UHD BD.

You think so? I think the US artwork is much better.

Neither one is great but the US has Stewart on the front so it wins.

Watched this last night. Yes, it is incredibly detailed and crisp (you'd hope so given the cameras used and the fact that it is raw and unfiltered) but I HATED the way it looked. It looks like a low budget production training video from work that just happed to use better cameras than normal. The framing and cinematography was awful, the film was way overscripted and felt like a local school production (can't believe this was an Ang Lee film). There is absolutely nothing about this that I'd recommend. Too many other great looking titles out there that are actually good movies to sit through this chore.

As many reviewers have noted, BLLHW is supposed to be a dark satire... it even has the actors to pull off broad comedy (Chris Tucker, Steve Martin, etc.), but strangely Ang Lee plays it too straight. It's most definitely a tonal mismatch to the source and the subject matter.

Ang Lee seemed more enamored with his new tech toys than to the characters and what the novel was trying to convey.

It's a pretty, empty shell.

Call me old fashioned, but I think people with good credentials should be held to HIGHER standards, not lower. The history lesson was good, but I'd like to hear more of his opinion given his credentials.

He's very divisive because despite all his history and know-how he often gives some really weird opinions, like praising processed transfers or discounting errors. He definitely seems to err on the side of the studios unless there is an abundance of evidence to make him do otherwise. Not attacking the guy, just saying... some people take his every word as gospel and I don't think that's warranted.

Sony is either having more disc production issues with this or they have really low sales expectations because Best Buy stores are only getting 2 copies each. Better get there ASAP on Tuesday to secure a copy.

The movie was a colossal flop theatrically.

But 4K UHD enthusiasts might save this movie, since it seems like it will be a reference disc for some time and people who want to show the full power of their setup will want to have it even if the movie is lackluster (though I'll take a mediocre Ang Lee drama over a mindless action movie any day). As far as I know it's the only 60+ fps 4K film in existence.

Or just maybe he's worked with home video companies & film for decades and knows the ins & outs of both film transfers and the industry, unlike most of us here who are, at best, making educated guesses on why certain BD transfers look the way they do or what they're supposed to look like or what source was used.

Does that make someone infallible? Of course not. But when someone's debating him on how The Godfather should look (not you guys, but I've actually seen this)...
