With Target's B2G1 sale, this would be an easy hit to take in the wallet. But there are enough negative reviews to make me cautious.

Is it worse than Jupiter Ascending? Because despite all the negativity it received, I didn't have a problem sitting through it and find moderately entertaining.

Jupiter Ascending was awful (imo). This movie is not awful. and imo does just enough to keep your attention along with the visuals. I've already seen a few people that agree with me that the movie isn't quite as bad as the critics claim.

I really hope the Hobbit trilogy gets issued in a HFR (I do know that the 4K standard doesn’t support 48fps) version.

I know some people are having issues playing this, even on the Samsung player. I have everything turned to auto in my settings. I also have a AudioQuest HDMI cable that is very premium, although I'm not sure if the HDMI cable would make a difference in the case of frame rate/HDR etc.

Personally, I wouldn't have minded a hard encoded HFR 3D at 720p resolution. But we have to turn on 3D manually on our TVs. Kind of like the FIFA World Cup 2010 film in 3D. That would have been a compromise I could accept with current technology.

After reading the last couple of pages, I think my setup wasn't playing this disc properly. I only watched the first ~25 mins but it looked really drab; flat with not any bright colors. I'm wondering if the HDR wasn't displaying properly now. The black levels were really light too. I was playing it with a Xbox One S on a LG B6.

I received this yesterday but only had a chance to watch about 15 minutes in UHD and 15 minutes in 3D. The UHD quality looks stunning but it definitely takes some getting used to.

The UHD disk is showing 4K 60FPS but, when I watch the 3D disk, it is only showing 24FPS. I was expecting the 3D disk to also be at 60FPS... Is that not the case?

Also, I have the Samsung 8500 UHD Blu-Ray player and the 3D disk menu won't display on my projector. I hear the sound but only get a "blue screen" which means that the resolution isn't supported by my Sony UHD projector (VPL-VW1100ES). If I hit enter, it will launch into the movie and then everything displays fine but it is in 24FPS and not 60FPS.

For those who are able to see the menu on the 3D disk, is there an option to select 24FPS vs 60FPS. Since I can't see the menu maybe I'm missing something.

3D is only 24fps because the BD format can't support HFR.

EDIT: I suppose you could increase the MotionFlow or whatever to simulate that SOE/HFR effect, but you're not gonna get actual HFR content on BD/1080p.

Correct. Blu-ray has no native support for 1080p60 encoding whatsoever, although 720p60 is part of the Blu-ray 3D format spec. Perhaps they could've encoded the 3D disc in this manner to preserve the HFR, but then people would've cried foul that it wasn't in full 1080p resolution etc etc.

Bought this at a local Walmart, went around 6:30pm yesterday and they had 5. Will try the 3D bluray in the next few days.

Were you able to get 10-bit color and HDR when playing this on your Samsung K8500?

I know I did not when I tried with mine. I need to try and figure out if it was an issue with the receiver or something else entirely.

I've seen other people who use receivers have issues with this disc. That might be the problem. If not, then perhaps the HDMI cable.

A blind buy that I wont be able to watch in full sometime this weekend but I did quickly skim through it to check out the PQ. Halftime's compression, color, dynamic range and resolution are all a sight to behold. Sony has no doubt continued its perfect PQ streak on UHD. Above all am surprised by how much I enjoyed seeing the native 60 fps, my eyes acclimatized to the HFR fairly quickly with elimination of motion artifacts as the most obvious benefit I loved how smooth it all looked. No comment on the movie itself until I finish watching it in full.

I watched the 3d version last night and I thought this was the weakest 3d I have ever seen. Life of pi had way better 3d than this.

Picked it up yesterday from Target, part of their "Buy 2, get 1 free promotion" along with Goodfellas and The Town (and also picked up Arrival, Argo and X-Men: Apocalypse, the prices were all right and the "B2G1F" promotion was way too good to pass up). My girlfriend and I checked out the halftime show/war scene. She hated the HFR, it didn't look like a movie to her. I was able to get past it, because I think it worked with the subject matter (television tends to be shot at higher frame rates already, and the leader in sport, ESPN, shoots at 60, and that also works for documentary war footage). I think Sully is still a better demo disk than Billy Lynn, if a little more conventional.

I also saw the movie in theaters at 24fps, and you can tell it was designed for HFR. The way things are staged and shot work much better in HFR, and in 24 it actually looks pretty awkward. So the movie seems to be crippled by it's own technology but it's still at most an interesting watch. The movie itself is strange and experimental and totally not for everyone. It's a nice demo piece and if you can get it this week at Target for free with 2 other films, I totally recommend it.

Yep something appears to be wrong, now nearly 24 hours. I am able so see it on Sony Pictures Store and even view it form their site(on my PC at least). Cannot see it In myuv and my usual choice VUDU.

PQ on this is stunning but as others have said, it's a very dry, dull film.

Perfectly serviceable and not a totally bad waste of two hours but nothing really happens.

I've seen the Hobbit trilogy in the HFR 3D theatrically (twice each film) so the 60fps here looked totally normal to me and I never noticed anything out of place.

The Revenant and Lucy are vastly superior in that regard (as are X-men Apocalypse and Sully.)
Well the reason people praise Pacific Rim like it was a Marilyn Monroe BJ is because of the HDR. So naturally if your interests lie elsewhere (as do mine really) then it's not going to be as transcendent for you.

I love HDR, and I think it adds a lot to the movie. However, my interests don't lie in any single area - I care about the overall picture quality. Having great HDR and a soft picture isn't enough for me. I prefer strong HDR and a very sharp/ crisp image.

The HDR was also stunning--the colors popped throughout, while black levels were as inky as can be. Pretty much flawless, and a new reference disc that anyone should pick up.

As for the film itself, I loved it. Had heard a lot of negativity but I was with it every step of the way and it packed a real emotional punch by the end.

Cannot recommend the 4K release enough.
My thoughts as well.
60fps absolutely stunning.

The film itself in regards to plot/story had some cliches and issues, but overall worked well and worked well with the format.

I think it must be seeing the hobbits in 48 that have somewhat adjusted me, along with the oklahoma 30fps bluray. I really despise motion blur and jutter during pans.

I wonder how many complaints there are with different movies made in the pre-standard era...did people rag on 24 fps as inferior to 14, 16, 18, hand cranked variable < 20?
