Going to be trail and error for a while, but three key things will be needed: antibody tests, contact tracing and widespread mask wearing (preferably N95s). No country can afford to shut down its economy for 18 months.

Personally I am hoping that they will at least allow construction projects to resume next month. I have several of my clients jobs shut down until May 3rd. It's reasonable to allow those projects to continue if the workers wear masks. And since the projection models have seen better numbers than was forecast, and that it appears we have reached a peak in new cases nationwide, I hope restrictions can be loosened up slightly next month. But just slightly of course, so that some businesses can reopen that are not "crowded" by nature and reasonable social distancing can be maintained.
A construction crew started back up last week when they heard the shelter in place for California was extended and like half of them aren’t wearing masks and none of them seem to be social distancing every time I have looked over 50% of them are like 2 feet apart. They are building a data center that won’t be finished for a couple of years and I doubt they are essential but it really makes me think they should stop nearly all we construction for now.

They sure can, and it's happening too...it's a fact.

Is a little humor allowed in all this very serious pandemic stuff?

Easy solution: make mask wearing mandatory in fields where social distancing at all times isn't possible, just like I suggested. Optional wouldn't cut it and keeping the construction industry closed down for several months is obviously out of the question, much less until a vaccine is found.

You cannot legislate for stupidity as Mark Twain and Einstein in his often quoted phrase have remarked.

If there is one thing during this pandemic I have learnt but am not really surprised by is the scientific ignorance of much of the public.

Here in the UK after conveniently placing money before lives and following the advice of that highly qualified virologist, infectious diseases expert and all round good egg Dominic Cummings I sincerely hope that despite spring moving into summer the government listens to the scientific advice given to it after ignoring it initially.

Our media have been incredibly reticent perhaps understandably so to overly criticize the government but the way certain things are still being handled particularly in the provision of PPE to care homes and front line workers be they in the medical professions, logistics, warehousing and public transport is abominable.

Once this is all over the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square indeed in a suitable spot in London should be earmarked for a set of statues to commemorate the sacrifices made by these individuals.

I'm certainly not religious but there is no greater sacrifice to lay down your own life for your fellow human being.

That is very very important; it's a measure that should be used everywhere in the whole world.
it will definitely be voluntary here, thats not even a question.

im way more concerned with the privacy aspect and these companies word to not abuse it. which at this point, i wouldnt believe anything they said...

"The second problem is that when these Bluetooth chips do pass in the night, you should expect a large number of false positives.

“If I am in the wide open, my Bluetooth and your Bluetooth might ping each other even if you’re much more than six feet away,” Mostashari said. “You could be through the wall from me in an apartment, and it could ping that we’re having a proximity event. You could be a on a different floor of the building and it could ping. You could be biking by me in the open air and it could ping.”

All of this seems really problematic even before you consider asking Apple or Google or Facebook to make a contact tracing app and promote it through their own channels. We’ve spent three and a half years having a discussion about the shortcomings of these companies when it comes to protecting our data privacy; putting them in a position to oversee a project as intimate and sensitive as disease infection seems like a bad idea. (My own sense in talking from executives at Google and Facebook in recent days is that they are eager to help with crisis response, and are already doing so in various ways, but basically have no interest in this particular part of the response.)"

There appears to be a hodgepodge of practices happening throughout the U.S. - https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/06/healt...nvs/index.html
And as I said before, ‘all things considered’ (even given CDC guidelines - “Ideally, testing for COVID–19 should be conducted, but it is acceptable to report COVID–19 on a death certificate without this confirmation if the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty”), I still think it’s likely that COVID-19 UCOD’s are being under….rather than over counted, although I may be wrong as I am not a statistician.

Don't get me wrong, some people look good that way. But for me, personally, it would probably look pretty bad. And I think one of the big reasons why is because the shape of my head is odd.

check out some interviews with doctors who find it alarming that they are being advised to write Covid when a positive test has not been performed. it definitely goes both ways, over/under reporting, but i think the scale tips to overreporting personally based on the practices at hospitals. certainly more people are dying at hospitals than at home. thats my reasoning anyway

Receipts are handled only twice - once for a couple seconds by the cashier and then by you when you take it. Money is handled and exchanged over and over and over again.

I think we're far under-reporting. There's plenty of evidence of that through comments made by doctors, nurses and other health-care workers.

This should be the absolutely least of our worries. I'm needing one too soon and it's the last thing I'm worrying about. It's not ludicrous that barber shops and hairdressers are closed. That's a perfect place for this to spread as there is direct contact with one person's hand touching another person's face/head, and people being in close-proximity for a good amount of time.
