I mean that's the medical perspective for masks. Theirs a reason doctors before this thing started only wear the things for an hour before effectiveness is reduced and touching the mask is considered contamination. The things are designed to catch droplets. Of course this is assuming people are wearing good masks like n95s if you are wearing cheap homemade masks then they don't really give you much benefit at all to begin with its mostly to protect other people from you.

Well and I'm one of those who think masks are iffy, yes I've heard the arguments. I'm a dishwasher. We're going to get water, sweat, trash and food all over those things quite quickly so we're going to spend the entire shift with a filthy mask on our faces that we're going to be adjusting while we work.

If you're handling the masks only by its earloops, it's okay to remove it, and put it back on later on. It's really the front of the mask that's most important to not touch as that's where any droplets, or pathogens collect. If you do touch the front, like to adjust the nose part, then sanitize/wash your hands after, and you're fine.
I find wearing a mask for long periods of time to be very uncomfortable, and you start breathing heavier into after a while, making the inside moister, and also leading to you touching it more to adjust it as it inevitably shifts around your face, ultimately weakening the integrity of the mask more than you would if you removed it in situations where you don't absolutely need to wear it. I would say it's safe to take it off while driving, as long as you handle it by the earloops, and sanitize your hands after. |

66% of new hospitalizations in NY were people who had been staying home. More of a reason to open us back up. If people are getting sick by staying home then might as well let theme out and about. What it comes down to is you're going to get the virus one way or another.

Exactly. Those "home" people are simply everyone who came in to test from their homes. They could be workers from a slaughterhouse, nurses, protesters, beachgoers, or anyone, regardless of how much time they actually spend at home. |

exactly, but there are so many variables to take into account from one persons journey out vs anothers. in reality, we dont know what degree the stay at home is doing to reduce the spread. logically, it has to help some, but how much, we dont and wont ever know

Cuomo said nearly 84% of the hospitalized cases were people who were not commuting to work through car services, personal cars, public transit or walking. He said a majority of those people were either retired or unemployed. Overall, some 73% of the admissions were people over age 51.

Right, so we have to go with the data that is being provided which points to people can take all the precautions they can they are still going to get sick. We're ruining the economy by shutting things down and people are still getting sick. Brilliant!

Funkin' weird how when presented with the problems "the government is asking farmers to destroy excess crops" and "1 in 5 kids are starving" the common solution to both these problems turned out to be…
kill the old and disabled. Oooohkay. Fine. Let's try it. |

How do people still not understand that social distancing isn't just meant to protect the high risk populations. Its primarily goal is to protect hospitals from being overrun, which would quickly happen in many places if everything just opened up. Hospitals being overrun leads to unnecessary deaths, and trickles over to all other parts of society.
People that just constantly focus on what group of people dying the most are acting pretty short-sighted, and clearly don't understand the bigger picture here. |
