At least it looks like WB will have slips.

I'm more interested in the first Steelbook releases.

Interesting. Part of me was sort of hoping that slipcovers would go away because then I would have no compelling reason to pick up UHD right away. 4K projectors are still extremely expensive so it will be a couple years before I am even ready to use a UHD disc.

I'm also curious if special features on the regular BD and not on UHD is going to be the norm.

I'd expect so. It's like the start of BD all over again. Missing features, audio tracks lacking the "better" option like missing ATMOS tracks.

But I guess as long as they include the BD then I'm happy to have the UHD disc dedicated to the film. More space the better I guess.

I sent an email to fox asking why no slipcovers and garbage eco cases. Their response was just to let me know there were many people involved in the decision of packaging.

I somehow doubt they're filling the discs. But who knows I guess.

I want all the special features on UHD so I can sell my BD to recoup costs.

As long as they continue to use BD-66 discs. Me? I hope BD-100 becomes the norm quickly... because Dolby Vision at 12 bit, especially, is going to need a very healthy bitrate, which will necessitate a larger storage capacity.

I actually dislike slips unless they have different art than the interior case. I prefer a nice, smooth plastic look. Also I would put Ender's Game in my steelbook if I ever get the UHD anyway.

The DV enhancement layer is only 1920x1080 in size, will it need a great deal more bitrate on top?

I personally love their decision since I don't like slip covers. Slip covers make getting to the disc take longer, so I usually throw them away. Although I have no idea what an eco case is.

As long as the case has the title on the front and spine, and has info on the back, that is all I need. The main thing I want to do is watch what is on the disc. Not watch what is on the case.

Me too. I also hope they don't make them like the UK BD cases. They are unnecessarily thick.

4K straight up stole the entire 3D Blu-ray section at my local BB.

I can't wait to see this section filled out.

Ooooooh...don't tell the guys over on the 3D subforum about this. They're already clutching onto their 3D discs with alarm.

You guys can joke, but after seeing some 3D on this OLED, some people dont understand what they are missing. I just watched Everest 3D and it was outstanding, and I never could get into 3D with my plasma because the contrast ratio sucks.

On the flip side, UHD disc owners are still trying to figure out how to set their displays up so things look right. The whole thing is a cluster screw and I am going to punt on the Martian and watch it in 3D not UHD. Cancelled that order.

I'd rather watch 3D than 4K. Most of the quality 4K re-releases I already own in 3D.

I remember, back when I had my 65ZT60, I got into 3D crazy. It was very enjoyable, I was buying 3D discs left and right.

Then my ZT died, and I went projector for a few months, with an Epson 5030 and a Sony VPL40 - the 3D on that utterly DEVASTATED anything I could ever hope to experience on a TV. That's what 3D was built for, large screens and projectors. I was in love.

Then I scrapped projectors and went 4K (long story). Tried 3D on my 65JS8500 and it just wasn't the same as a big screen anymore. So I discarded it altogether.

Now I dont even buy 3D discs if the option is there, unless it's part of a steelbook or what have you.

Projector owner. Can't blame you. I would feel the same. Hence why I'll probably build a projector setup again, in a dedicated room (vs my living room) if I ever move out of this apartment...

Last night I watched Pacific Rim in 3D for the first time ever.

Wow...I was just slack-jawed. The closeups were so real. Neon colors glowing.

Even on an LG 65" at full-rez HD, it was so amazing. I was really blown away.

Story was just OK, not saying it was best movie ever or anything.

If I knew someone with UHD, I'd tell them to bring over The Martian for a 3D vs. UHD shootout.

I haven't had a chance to watch that one in 3D yet, but I'm expecting to be amazed.

I've heard (lunch time at work so it's to take with a grain of salt) companies wouldn't market UHDBD Optical Drive for computer. Anyone has any info?

Wouldn't surprise me. Software support for even blu rays is almost non-existent, certainly is for free programs, so blu-ray drives are just for storage, burning and, in some cases even though they're not supposed to, ripping.

I think Media Player for Windows 10 even got rid of DVD support IIRC, and very few laptops and not all desktops even have optical drives anymore.
