A lot of it depends on the cinema you're seeing it at, to be honest. Hence why I'm always confused about the people who say "it's not how I remember it in theaters" - how are you so sure what you saw in your theater was accurate to begin with?

But that's a derailment I have no wish of going down right now.

I had no recollection of it being dim when I saw it at my local Dolby Cinema.

Can't wait for Tuesday!!!

A Dolby Cinema screen shouldn't have had issues but the scene is *very dark* on home video and the average theater screen didn't handle it well.

Which ones are the most reliable commercial movie theaters where to make a clear assessment of a film?

Oh I hear you on that. At least I hope HDR makes it look a little less offensive.

The rhinos looked bad in theaters but fared better on my rewatch here; HDR usually does help CGI.

For sure. I should say this is coming from a purely anecdotal, non-expert perspective, as someone who saw it in a regular old Odeon when it was in cinemas, but I certainly FELT like it was different in the home version and wouldn't be surprised if it was confirmed changed.

Looks like the Dolby Vision layer actually has enhancement layer video data rather than just metadata this time. I wonder if the Dolby Atmos track is another fixed channel 7.1.4 print out as their previous titles or an honest to god object oriented Atmos track.

But it's still going to look like shit in 5 or 10 years from now i wished studios would rely less on CGI or put more effort and time at the very least.

I give average CGI no mind. This is Disney; king of doing it cheap.

They probably hedged their bets on this one and had no idea it would become the behemoth it did. They probably didn't want to spend too much on the CG just in case the movie didn't take off as it was a newish character etc.

That said a lot of Marvel movies have some shocking CG so it's not just Black Panther.

They spent all their CGI dollars on The Jungle Book.

Just read the tech review for the standard Blu-ray of BP on Blu-ray.com, and it's yet another sonic downer from Disney. Not much bass again, and I'm sure the 4K UHD's Dolby Atmos won't save the day, either.

Disney, for God's sake, PUMP UP THE VOLUME!!!!!!!

It's more than just the volume, it's dynamic range, etc
