No not all of them. I would have to go back and listen to them to see which if any of them were. Off hand I remember Zootopia an Moana as being fine.

I am also having an issue I saw mentioned earlier in the thread with DV vs HDR10. Gear is an LG 65" B7 and the Oppo 203.

The DV immediately looked weird to my eyes, just oddly dark overall and some weird highlights. I remembered a post I saw a few pages back where someone else described the same problem, and forced the Oppo to output HDR10. Revisiting those same scenes looked much improved (and as I remembered the scenes looking theatrically). Makes me a bit gun shy on Dolby Vision, to be honest. Might just stick with forcing HDR10 for the forseeable future.

I don't recall noticing audio issues in Salazar's Revenge (i.e. Dead Men Tell No Tales). It was immediately noticeable in Ragnarok. Note that a volume difference alone doesn't mean much. Average volume levels can vary a lot, especially with music albums. However, movies were supposed to standardize around Dolby specs. DTS always seemed to cheat this to make themselves sound better (human perception dictates identical sounds at different volumes always seem better at higher volume until pain or distortion kicks in). Apparently, studios sometimes ignore this at home.

Another common false perception is that louder = more dynamic range. In practice, recordings with more dynamic range have quieter average output levels so that the peaks can be higher (maxed at 0db). Compared to another album at the same volume level, this then makes the superior more dynamic range recording seem worse. Thus, having to turn up a movie's volume compared to another in no way automatically means it has LESS dynamic range. It may, in fact have more. I'm not saying that's the case with these recent Disney titles, but the volume level alone is not a reliable indicator.

For video I thought it was a sloppy mess. The movie looks way too CGI-y for most of its run-time; specifically it has that Hobbit feel where they built a tiny fraction of a set (like the waterfall pool) and then surrounded it with green and called it a day. I hate that look. I also thought it looked soft overall, and the UHD specifically often looks too dark and dim for my taste. The colors are AMAZING though, agreed with the reviews on that, but everything else had me shrugging my shoulders. Reminded me of the last Tarzan movie, a movie all about Africa where they seemingly never f**king went to Africa for anything but aerial shots and filmed the rest on greenscreen sets in a warehouse.

The audio was TOTALLY FLAT. I use good quality headphones so take my opinion for what it is, but I thought discs like Thor 3's were a little lacking and Black Panther was SUPER LACKING. My wife was watching with me using the TV speakers and she turned them to 100, I kid you not. I don't think those speakers have been above 55 before. Also I loved the end credits song so much I bought the MP3 later last night and when listening to that on the same headphones via my PC the difference was MASSIVE. Totally borked audio here.

Lastly I thought the movie was only okay. Perhaps because I didn't like the look of it as much as others, and also thought too much of the CGI action was meh, but it just didn't grab me like so many others. I did love the themes and African designs, that was cool stuff, but the actual direction and movie itself... eh, it'd be pretty low on my Marvel ranking as of this first watch. We'll see how further watches improve it though.
I know what you mean dude. I hate the abundant use of CGI where you feel like you're drowning in it. GotG2 felt the same way to me.

Then you are watching the wrong genre of movie. Try drama or comedy for less cgi

I think this problem with the audio will not stop unless someone powerful like Kevin Fergie from Marvel Studios says something about how poorly the audio on their Marvel movies are being presented on their 4K & Bluray discs.

It's Disney audio mastering guidelines company-wide as a home video policy. They've taken to the lowest common denominator home system approach to near field mixing. Even some of their cinema mixes are being affected as well, so as not to hurt people's delicate ears.

Everything from then onwards to be honest has sounded a bit poor to my ears, all 3 disney released Star Wars' are not a patch on any of the 6 from the saga boxset. Really is getting a joke as their previous titles sounded great, especially Pixars stuff.
It started with Thor: The Dark World with the low volume but Avengers Age Of Ultron was so bad on many levels other than the low volume.

Since then, ALL Disney movies, Marvel or not, have had bad audio mixes.

I watched Black Panther 3D in a good cinema (Non-IMAX) and the audio was the exact same. Lacking in volume and in dynamic range.

These are examples of my findings:

I know it is not a scientific comparison per se, but both are taken from the loudest part of a song that should engage vocals, choir, LFE and surround channels. The Greatest Showman example is from the opening scene and Coco scene is "Remember Me" song in the first 6 minutes or so.

This is another comparison. Thor's part is the opening fight scene and Kingsmen's is from the opening chase scene.

Disney is pure audio crap compared to normal sounding releases.

I bet they half assed the CGI in this one because they didn't think it would be the success that it turned out to be. Thor Ragnarok had some iffy CGI at certain points as well.

The Guardians, Iron Man, and Thor movies (and Doctor Strange) seem to get enough attention for VFX. The rest have varied between acceptable and appalling.
