Absolutely cannot claim Disney does it "for the Soundbars" either.

It's like normalization and night modes are enabled and set to max, then baked right into the audio track. Playing it twice as loud as normal but it's still so flat and emaciated. Dynamics are completely shot.

Yeah, but not everyone has a thousand dollar soundbar! Most soundbars that people buy are indeed the sort of plugged up, low dynamic range piece of shit that only sounds better than the TV speakers because the TV speakers themselves are so bad, but it still suffers from a lot of the same problems when confronted with something that has a lot of dynamic range. The complaint of "I have to keep turning the dialogue up when people talk but turn it down when the action starts!" is something that I'll bet cash money you will never, ever read about when it comes to Black Panther's UHD audio. And so Atmouse's work is done...

It's priced about the same as other Atmos Soundbars if you include the extra cost of rear satellites, cheaper options don't offer actual surround sound. But in blind testing it does sound better than setups twice the price so you may be right there.

Dreading watching more Disney UHDs... Really hope Fox handles the Star Wars saga.

Those had Black leads, but they weren't mostly Black casts and a mostly Black creative team. They also weren't massive billion dollar blockbusters. You know there's an obvious difference there, don't play stupid.

Honestly IMO I think BP deserved a best picture nod, but no way does it deserve to win. Tbh id be surprised if it wins any Oscars, Marvel/Disney should just be happy with all the noms it got!

This is true, and oddly, I appreciate these broke ass mixes when I'm watching Disney UHDs at night while my son is asleep. I have one of those monstrous soundbars that rattles the whole house and pierces through walls even at fairly low volumes so I have to be vigilant while watching the majority of UHDs. Not with Disney, though.

The volume is low on Disney titles because they are actually mixed at Reference volume. They are also conservative with LFE levels, again I think they mix at reference and don’t push the low end. More and more home mixes today are way too loud to play near reference. Sony and WB tracks are insanely loud, I highly doubt anyone could listen at reference comfortably anyway. I had Cliffhanger at -10 MV and I thought my ears were going to explode. Pretty much every Sony catalogue title remixed for Atmos is very loud. I’ve been doing a lot of comparing and tests and if you crank the volume near reference they actually sound good. I think a lot of people might have a lot of processing engaged on their AVR’s and Soundbars that might be messing with dynamics. Or they run their subs hot. People also get used to their sweet spot on the dial and get rattled if they have to push louder. Some Universal titles are similar, Jurassic World comes to mind.

All I see is capitalism giving people of any color the freedom to make more uninspired MCU tie-ins. Disney is the winner in the end here, not creative black talent. If that's special to you that's great, it's not to me. Moonlight winning multiple awards in 2016 likely meant more than any awards Black Panther does or doesn't get if you ask me.

Yes creative Black talent win, because this shows you can make a movie with predominantly Black stars and Black creatives involved with a huge budget and still have it be a massive hit. For decades that was a non-starter, as Hollywood insisted on limiting diversity for massive mainstream products like this. There's a reason media business and news sites made a huge deal about it, even if Joe Schmoe internet wants to pretend otherwise.

If it's not the kind of movie you're into that's fine, but it's still a game changer in the realm of this type of movie.

... When it has the MCU brand behind it, a very crucial detail you left out.

It made $700 million domestic and Ant-Man 2 made $200 million. It wasn't just the Marvel branding, dude.

I never said it was, but the MCU branding certainly helped.

$200Mil domestic is a huge haul too.

Dark knight and Logan didn’t deserve nominations, you’re joking right? Dark knight is the reason why the best picture nominees list got expanded from 5 to 8. Only reason why this got nominated is because the academy doesn’t want to upset the black community. BP is an above average comic book film in my honest opinion.

TDK has a sloppy script and lackluster third act. It is also only an above average superhero film, IMO.

It was nominated because it was a massive hit and critically acclaimed. Audiences have changed over the last few decades. The 20-40 age group grew up watching very different movies compared to the baby boomers. People are starting to realize that big budget blockbusters can also be great movies. I’m not very fond of BP, has nothing to do with race, I just find it bland. I do not think it’s anywhere near the best picture. But in a way I think it would be very interesting if it did win because it would reset the tone of the Oscars.

What main differences do you see in viewing trends between the 35-45 group and the new generation of movie goers?
