Default Favorite aspect ratio on Blu-ray?

I was just curious to see what your preferred aspect ratios are? Mine would be 2.35:1

This thread is an argument waiting to happen. That being said, I don't have a preference.

I am with you, as per the director's wish. It's his story let him tell it and show it the way he want's it.

Whatever aspect ratio the director wants us to see. But if I have the power to tell the director what aspect ratio to use, I would tell him to use 16:9, the ratio of HDTV.

Whatever the director wanted.

But 2.35:1 is generally my favourite theatrical framing.

Great answer. As a matter of fact; it's the only answer.

I prefer the aspect ratio the movie was filmed in.

I would like it if we could have a choice in aspect ratio -- I like it best when the Hi-Def picture fills the screen at 16:9 -- it makes the experience, without the black bars, to me so much more cinematic.

How far off are 2.35:1 tvs, I wonder?

I'm not a cinematographer, so whatever's required to get the job done I'll accept. That said, for me there is no debate whatsoever what looks best on my HDTV, and that's full screen 16:9. I consider the BD version of the IMAX The Dark Knight shots the goal which all other movies should strive for.

Now my understanding is with a conventional camera you lose your field of view if you use 16:9, so maybe that's epic scale with the 16:9 is something limited to IMAX cameras or movies that don't need huge fields of view? Like I said, I'm not a cinematographer, I just know that visually that looks better than anything else I've seen.

Am I right that it's for the wide field of view they usually use the 2.35:1? I hope that's the case and it isn't for some subjective "it feel's more epic" reason they stick black bars at the top and bottom of people's televisions.

Same here, I go with what the director intended. I'll just say that I don't like the very squarish 1.33:1 but this one is very rare on the big screens. Don't think I've seen one since Kubrick.

I like full screen because I hate the black bars. Black Bars are evil!

"Original". I couldn't care less if it fills my screen or not. Just give me the picture the way it was intended to be viewed.
