There is in fact DNR in TTT and RotK as a few others have noted.

Ken Brown vouched for this himself.
But, It is to a lesser extent than in FotR, with it being hardly an issue at all in RotK (though Ken did say he was in the early stages of his analysis of that film, so that could possibly change).

Yes, you are complaining and have not even watched the BDs, laughable.

I am going to start when I get home. Fors is already way ahead of us. He started with the Silmarillion last month. Go Fors!

Tried to read the Silmarillion once, believe I got about 20 pages in before I gave up out of boredom.

I was 11! I was expecting a grand, sweeping epic like LoTR or the Hobbit and instead I got something that read like an encyclopedia.

It is very complex and "dense", as Tolkien wrote it over a period of about 50 years. I have found that accompanying references, such as Karen Wynn Fonstad's Atlas of Middle Earth, are very helpful to understand and enjoy this work, which was Tolkien's lifetime passion.

Hmmm, will have to look into acquiring this, Silmarillion is quite a heavy read from what I can tell, would be nice to be able to try to keep everything straight.

The many strange names and places, as well as the fact that the first few chapters are almost Biblical in character, add to the confusion. Once you become familiar with those aspects, the pieces fall into place - but it is a definite investment of energy.

I was expecting a prologue to the Hobbit, as in the tales of the Necromancer before he became Sauron, tales of Saruman and Gandalf before they became the characters we know and tales of Isildur and the One Ring.

Obviously not a casual read, the thing to keep in focus is that you are witnessing the ultimate statement of an Oxford Professor of the English Language and Anglo-Saxon, perhaps the greatest ever, who is attempting to provide England with a legitimate mythology. Lord of the Rings was a derivative of that effort, to our benefit.

Oxford? So it's not just my imagination, the man was a literary genius and extremely well educated.

The book, although unfilmable as a whole because of its "density", has sections and even individual chapters that would provide interesting subject matter for many films!

No problem Mike, I just do not agree with you. Has nothing to do with what I know or do not know. Let's just agree to disagree. Good day sir.

Elrond: The ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Gloin, by any craft that we here possess. The ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can it be unmade. The ring must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came. One of you must do this.
Boromir: One does not simply walk into Mordor. It's black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. The great eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, ash, and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly.
Legolas: Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond has said? The ring must be destroyed!
Gimli: And I suppose you think you're the one to do it?
Boromir: And if we fail, what then? What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?
Gimli: I will be dead before I see the Ring in the hands of an Elf! Never trust an Elf!
Yeah, baby!

I just finished reading the Silmarillion 2 weeks ago...it gets much better and easier to read in the second half...but it is a labor of love. The Atlas by Karen Fonstad and the Guide were invaluable and are by my side now as I am on Chapter 7 in FOTR at this time.....

One of my favorites, but imagine trying to film that. I can see why Jackson left that part out of the movie.
