Only Andie McDowell can solve this problem at this point.

And yes, suppose Eric put the DISH broadcast of the HDTV version he has on BluRay, when it comes to image quality, it would look better than the BD's.

It's blatantly obvious. THe BD of Felloship looks virtually identical to the HDTV version + added DNR. There's not a chance in Hell they remastered it.
So they added DNR to the HD master of FOTR, but TTT and ROTK were left alone? If so, that would be very strange. It seems that no one disputes that TTT and ROTK look good on the BRs coming out. So they must have NOT screwed with them, but they did mess up FOTR? If that makes sense to you, then well...Eric is always right and cannot make a mistake.

So are you saying those screens are deceptive? Are you saying he's made a mistake here?

Then I say the same thing I said the first time, those screens are 100% accurate. They are not deceptive, they are not inaccurate.
I'm not implying anything. I am saying exactly what I mean. I am not assuming that Eric is always correct. You are. I am not assuming that because Eric has been correct in the past that Bill Hunt must be turning into a Ron Enderle for the movie companies. You are assuming that. I am not placing all my eggs in the Eric basket.

You reacting negatively to positive, or slightly positive reviews, with the presumption that Eric is always correct, and his equipment and software is always working at 100%. Therefore Eric is the standard by which to judge everyone else's reviews of LOTR on BR. I hope Eric doesn't ask you to drink any kool-aid. If you were to ask someone with a degree in philosophy about this, they could tell you the fallacy of your logic. I am not saying Eric is not correct. I want to hear from everyone who can give an intelligent evaluation first.

Have you seen the TTT pics posted earlier in this thread? They looked awful because of their DNR.

Do you think those screens Eric posted are accurate? Simple question. You don't seem to be able to answer it directly.

I'm not assuming anything about Bill Hunt, I don't even know what that means, man. I haven't mentioned him once or referenced him in any way.

PLEASE explain the HDTV vs blu ray comparison shots then......Fact is they did add DNR. What more proof do you need??

Also, TTT and RotK have DNR added, just to a lesser degree.

It's more likely that the DNR was applied to blend with some special effects, allowing for progressively less DNR as the effects improved from one film to the next. That's just speculation.

Thanks for your efforts, but don't bother.

You will be accused of "making a mistake" or taking "faulty" screencaps, even though the software does it all and it's basically impossible to screw up.

Or maybe you'll be categorized as part of the anti-LOTR conspiracy!

Xylon posted this screen a while ago (year+) in the Dark City comparison thread, so I'm not sure what the source is. Anyways, I think it looks awesome:

[Show spoiler]

You can compare it to the BD:

1) Get off the "moon" discussion.... it's just insults at this point, and mostly aimed at someone who isn't even a member of this forum (at least I don't think)

2) Remember, you can attack the logic or lack there of in a post.... but leave the personal insults out of it...... rather than saying "you're dumb" refute the posts with facts or opinions.

3) Yes, people are commenting on the screen caps without seeing the actual Blu-rays, but it's important to note that we have an entire "screenshot" thread where people take great screen shots with camera/tri-pod, as well as computer captured images....... I don't see anyone saying the computer captured images don't have any validity there....

4) I've seen numerous screen shots that looked great, and then received a great looking Blu-ray, but I have never seen a grouping of terrible screen shots only to buy/rent the Blu-ray and find that it looked great in motion......

5) and finally..... if you want to say one glowing review outweighs 5 terrible ones, that's fine..... but you should probably come up with a reason why you feel the consensus of reviewers is wrong.

EDIT:

This thread has gotten "Gladiator Ugly" (much like the Blu-ray itself) There are those who received the Gladiator and said "after all of this negative talk, I think it looks great"

THAT IS FINE...... that's one person's opinion and he/she probably doesn't scrutinize the image quality, or really 'care' about the DNR and EE applied.... they simply aren't sensitive to it..... THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT..... Arguing that it doesn't exist though is tough..... as you would have to find a way to prove your point vs. the countless people who see it clearly with their own eyes, including professional reviewers.

Seeing as how this is one of the most groundbreaking and profitable movie trilogies ever produced, is there anyone on this forum that DOESN'T think that every Warner and New Line executive, as well as everyone involved with the production of the movie, including Peter Jackson, has not or will not see this BD release?
