If you guys keep this up the thread should be renamed "Lord of the Rings in 2010: I'm going to flame you if you don't agree with me." Get your act's together please and get this thread back on topic.

Oh and the last time I knew Star Wars had nothing to do with LOTR.
+1

I think we need a "complainers thread" where people can argue, discuss, etc and another "enjoyers" thread.

This one is really hard to read...

I have seen both the theatrical and extended editions of the film. If i were to see each added scene seperately i would love it, but the extended editions as a whole seemed to drag on for me. I feel like as movies the theatrical editions work best, the extended editions work more like visual aids to the books. There are some things that realy shoud have stayed in the films though such as (SPOILERS) (highlight to read)

[Show spoiler]the scene with the mouth of sauron in ROTK, and the seen with Sauroman at the top of the tower at the beginning of ROTK.

That's not how you do spoilers man. Use [spoiler] and then the / tag to close them. There's also a spoiler button -- the little smiley dude with a blindfold on.

And yes it is a big deal when you expect the worst and then get surprised to find it actually rather good.
You wanna know why that is, its because when you have your mind set on something it is very hard to change it. Its the same when you go to the theater and watch a movie and you expect the worst, chances are when you have seen it you still would think the worst about it.
To change that outcome is a really big deal and the experience will have to be great to change that

Not really. The other side of the coin is that peoples expectations were brought down so far by reviews such as Daves, Xylon, and Kens that when they finaly saw it themselves they were pleasantly surprised. How many of these viewers view with a critical eye to the extent that Ken, Xylon, and Dave do? I would bet none, so how could they not be pleasantly surprised. Just my opinion.

I was not referring to you AT ALL! I read about a few posters finding this at Walmart on either AVS or HDD. Get a grip My post had NOTHING to do with you. Why such a nasty tone?

Do you think they will re-re-master the theatrical editions when they eventualy release them separately? I mean, gangs of new york has already been re-re-mastered.

Read it again. I have not told anyone they are wrong basically or directly and you seem to have misinterpreted my posts. I have disagreed with people, but does that mean they are wrong in general? Of course not.

EDIT: Ah, I found it. 3.0 out of 5. Would you change it, for better or worse, after seeing TTT?

How does they compare to the HD broadcasts in your eyes?
To me Fellowship deserves a 3 out 5 for video. It has problems
and those problems seem much greater when compared to the
Two Towers and ROTK. To those that finally see these with their
own eyes will see a huge jump from Fellowship to Two Towers.
I did.

Regarding the HD broadcasts(TBS) the Fellowship Blu-ray is only
slightly better and the TT and ROTK are far superior on Blu-ray imo.
I'm not of a big fan of TBS-HD, they seem to do more harm than
good.

Now lemme get this straight, Gladiator was a worse transfer or worse thread?

But I will most certainly buy the trilogy on tuesday regardless of what anyone says purely for the fact that it WILL be better than the dvd. And that is all I ask for.

But hey, maybe Warner will listen to some of the criticism and do something about it for the next release.
The problem is that Blu-ray has become "the emperor's new clothes". Slap an 8 year old master that had been used for DVD onto a Blu-ray disc, throw in some extra DNR in with the encode, and people will praise it. Of course it will look better than the DVD simply because of the higher resolution. But, that doesn't mean it looks good.

Anyone seen the early screencaps of the Saving Private Ryan Blu-ray release? THAT is how a Blu-ray should look.

New Orleans, LA
Default which version should I get at best buy

Please help! I'm trying to decide on getting the exlusive edition with the sword or the steelbook version. Does anyone know if the version with the sword comes with a steelbook case? Also, I'm still confused about the price for the steelbook. if I try to preorder it for store pickup, the price is 15 for the steelbook case and 59.99 for the movies. Someone has told me that it'll be 5 bucks for the steelbook in the store tues, but Best Buy employees cant confirm this and it's not in the weekly ad. To make matters worse, only one Best Buy in my area of New Orleans has the steelbooks. I cant run in the store during the day because of my work schedule! What should I do?!?

Thanks,
Brian
