I have to say that I continue to be confused at how fans in general are on opposite sides of Star Wars vs Lord of the Rings.

With Star Wars, people go nuts if they don't get the theatrical editions... claiming the newer versions are not what they saw in the theater.

With Lord of the Rings, however, people are going nuts if they don't get the extended editions and some practically claim the theatrical versions are garbage not worth having.

Me? I want both.. I want theatrical and extended for Rings.. and original + new remix for Star Wars.

I'm only mad if I had to buy theatricals twice to get the extended. As long as each are separate then I'm happy.

Now as for picture quality... these threads seem to be all over the place usually for every movie that I've seen heated debates. I remember people getting violent in the Star Trek movie threads when those were released... but I have to say I'm pretty happy with those on Blu and they are far better than my DVDs. Only "missing" part was those were theatrical releases too, and I know that ruffled some feathers as well.

Whenever I get time to spare, I'll watch the trilogy I just bought... and I'll be surprised if I'm not really pleased with the purchase.

This thread has become unbearable to read with everyone arguing and being rude to each other. Maybe i'll start reading it again once the thread get's back on topic.

If you guys keep this up the thread should be renamed "Lord of the Rings in 2010: I'm going to flame you if you don't agree with me." Get your act's together please and get this thread back on topic.

Oh and the last time I knew Star Wars had nothing to do with LOTR.

Default Two Towers - Review

Just finished watching the Two Towers and I must say this was
a huge step up from the FOTR in regards to pq. I'ts still not perfect
and there are some minor problems at times.

For instance, black levels in some night scenes with Tree Beard seem
a little elevated. Noise reduction is also back in some scenes but is
nowhere near as bad and distracting as Fellowship. I also noticed
some slight edge enhancement but nothing too dramatic. All of the
above did not distract me one bit from enjoying the movie and I suspect
most people will be very pleased after watching this transfer.

On the plus side, detail is abundant, skin tones look natural and
colors were beautifully rendered. All aerial shots looked absolutely
stunning in Hi-def. One shot in particular that stood out was
an aerial shot of Edoras, which frankly was breathtaking and
literally had my jaw hanging to the floor. This was a tremendous
leap forward compared to the Fellowship which looked like an
upscaled dvd on some panaramic shots.

For the audio, the DTS HD MA track is outstanding. Dialogue is
easily discernable and never felt overpowered by the rest of the
score. My surround speakers were put through a judicious
workout reproducing everything from clanking swords to screams of
pain. One particular scene had me ducking for cover as an arrow
whizzed past. Bass was deep, tight and thunderous throughout.
I can say without hesitation the battle of Helm's Deep will be my
reference scene for audio from now on. When the wall was destroyed
the explosion rocked my room like never before.

Video: 4.25 out of 5
Audio: 5 out of 5

Display: Pioneer Kuro 60" Elite(PRO151FD) - calibrated
Seating distance: 8 to 9 feet
Speakers: Mythos ST's(fronts), Mythos Ten(center), Mythos One's(rears)
Subwoofer: SVS 20-39pci
Processor: Onkyo PR-SC885P(Audyssey calibrated)

i think its more that they dont like added cgi and affects that were redone and inserted in the film. to me thats a little different for lotr ee because its actual footage that were filmed at the same time and no effects redone.

for me, i bought this relase for lotr. ive never seen the extended versions. im curious about them and perhaps ill double dip at a much later date if the price is right but for now im content with this release.

I think most people believe the EEs are better than the TE for LOTR because of the added footage fleshed things out.

For Star Wars, most prefer the TE just because it's better than the SEs and this is the version they saw as kids.

If you are talking about me then you need to pay attention more. I have explained TWICE now what happened at Wal-mart. Not everybody can walk in there and do what I did. Geez if you can't get it after my explaining TWICE, then how reliable are you with other "facts"?

So in other words, you aren't going to buy something if it's not released. Have you bought any BRs that weren't released?

I have a question about the digital copies. I have almost 100 blurays now, many of which have digital copies, and I've never used them. Do they expire? I was just curious i case I wanted to drop some of them into my iphone. Thanks

What do you guys think? i mean, i have seen the extended cuts and found myself getting bored due to the length. Also, can someone please upload a picture of the slip cover and inside cases, i know there were a couple floating around here at some point.
YES!

I certainly cannot wait for 2.5 years to see these in HD! (and hear them). I'm picking them up on Tuesday. 59.99 at Target and Best Buy.

Yes, a lot of them do expire. I'd go ahead and redeem them.

That topic has been the subject of MUCH debate for MANY pages in this thread.

Obviously, not many people here have them yet. Several of them say they rival or surpass the HD broadcasts.

I'm reading almost all of them. I have seen you talk about getting it at WalMart with an employee discount, and some other guy seeing it in San Antonio. Others who have it and who have posted reviews are not in N.A.

I called BB, Target, and WalMart in my area and none had it early.

I've NEVER seen things before street date at any major B&M in the several big cities I've lived in.

Thanks for the insight. Did you give a review for Fellowship? If so, what did you score it video-wise, and would you alter your score after seeing The Two Towers?

EDIT: Ah, I found it. 3.0 out of 5. Would you change it, for better or worse, after seeing TTT?

How does they compare to the HD broadcasts in your eyes?
