Guess I'll sit tight with my WBShop pre-order & see what happens.
(But I pre-ordered LotR with The New World, which I'd kinda like to get NOW!)

Don't sit tight, call and tell them to ship your other items as they become available rather than wait for LotR

Well, hopefully the delay means that this will at least ensure a great transfer (as opposed to the controversial Gladiator blu). Hoping that maybe the delay is because they're adding the EEs and other supplements to the blus, but I doubt it. One can only hope though, right?

Reminder that IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE SEAMLESS BRANCHING ON THESE DISCS

The EEs have an alternate score, so you'd have to have another lossless soundtrack on there. Add in extras, and unless you want your Blu-Rays of LOTR to look like a DVD, then it is impossible.

Could people just listen for once? This whining about how they're not on the same disc is terrible.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Limited Editions - 2001-03 (2006) - New Line

(...)

Each of these new Limited Editions includes two discs. Disc One is a DVD-18 (dual-sided, dual-layered) disc that contains BOTH the original theatrical version of the film in question, as well as the longer (and BETTER) extended edition. This has accomplished via the use the latest advancements in MPEG-2 compression, by employing DVD's tried-and-true seamless branching capabilities, and by omitting the DTS audio track and the multiple audio commentaries that the previous 4-disc set included.

the obvious only answer to this is a 3-4 disc set for each movie then!!! 1 for the theatrical, 1 for the extended, then 1 or 2 for all of the extras.

this would be for each movie!!!

If it is true that they delayed it because of those catalog titles coming this year then thats a stupid reason to do it. combined, those titles wont sell half of what LOTR would sell.

Dammit, i was really looking forward to buying the movie this year.

+1
I think the real reson is the other catalog titles would have suffered, basically over half of the blu-ray adopters would spent their money on LOTR.
LOTR, Star Wars and the Alien series are like the holy grail on blu.
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!? ???????!?!?

No they didn't. First you said seamless branching wasn't even possible. Now you're saying the seamless branching discs were terrible.

I don't believe you've ever watched them, especially since they received high video grades from most review sites on the net, and because you didn't even know this was possible until about an hour ago

But you already have the special features on dvd...
unless you mean the EE versions feature new special features?
I haven't followed the news on LOTR much other than release dates.

i would only upgrade my extended's if the blu copies have everything that the dvd's came with.

if they don't, i'll upgrade the theatrical versions and keep my extended's.

Not so. ROTK EE was the worst of the bunch. Everything included was pointless and really let the film down.

I'm wondering and hoping that pushing the LOTR release to 2010 is tied to avoiding the same outcome as the POS Gladiator Paramount/Universal release and the bad reviews it got. Maybe they want more time to make sure they put an appropriate amount of time and effort into this one, unlike the POS mentioned.

I've got to be honest that this delay doesn't bother me as I wasn't planning on buying the movies until there was the extended cut out anyways. I truly don't understand them releasing just the theatricals when most of the movie buying public already owns the extended cuts on dvd. Why make us pay to upgrade a movie to high def but not include nearly an hour of footage for each movie that we already have on out inferior sdvd discs??

Do it right the first time. I could understand the double dip back on the sdvd versions but now that we all own those versions this double dip woudl be EXTREMELY uncessary.
