Why worry? Who cares if these are released or not. No EE's no sale.

I care. I happen to really love the LOTR movies I saw in theaters, in addition to the EEs.

Based on those comparison shots, I might have to pick this one up sometime down the road.

I happen to love the Star Wars films I saw in the theater in 77,80 and 83. Will I ever see them in this format? Nope......so who needs the non EE's of Rings on Blu! In fact I hope Jackson goes in and tinkers the hell out of them....I so want to hear LOTR Fanboys cry.

LOTR fanboys are the opposite of Star Wars.... Anything Jackson does to enhance or make them better will be welcomed with open arms.

So none of us can ever enjoy the theatrical versions on blu-ray because YOU don't want to see them ever again?

OK, guy....

With Blu-ray's storage capacity, and Lucas' desire to fill his pockets..... I think it's possible a Theatrical version of the original three could happen.

Not to turn this into another Star Wars conversation (this will be my only post about it )...but as much as I'd love to see the theatricals on Blu-ray, I'd say it's very doubtful. Lucas has stated several times that he considers the SE's to be THE Star Wars movies and his intended vision for them, and has no desire to ever release the theatricals again. Of course, this could (and will hopefully) change at any time

The only crying you'll hear about are tears of joy when these are finally released in all their HD glory. Better start getting used to it

This is true but like Beta Man said...Lucas can make a few extra bucks by releasing the originals in their unaltered state.

Just as a comparison. I believe this was shot on film [the trilogy]. I cant wait
Yep, the trilogy was shot on film. In fact when the first film was released no film had been entirely shot using a digital camera yet (Star Wars Episode 2 was the first, though episode one did have two scenes shot in the same manner).

Does anyone know if there is a current planned release in Australia for these films?

I'm with you there, and I'll be buying the extended editions as well, and will have no regrets owning both.

I will own this trilogy on day 1. I don't see any other release that is going to be bigger than this for the rest of the year.
