How can you not see a difference in favor of the HDTV???
If someone can't see how the first cap looks awful, then they really don't have a right to argue. Also, DNR doesn't disappear with motion so those who think it will go away magically when you are playing the BD you will be very disappointed.

Haha, and the second one may be worse. Gandalf's beard is a cluster****.

My point is i would be happy if every movie (yes a movie not a film or whatever the stuckup term is) looked like WALL-E or any Pixar movie as opposed to how gladiator or 300 look.

I dont like grain....you do.
I like the cowboys....you dont.

See....endless.

Well I have this one theory I'm working on that says the moon causes cancer, but as much as I'd love to sit here and trade crazy conspiracy theories with you I have a tin foil hat to build.

I've always liked that they were releasing both versions. I was going to buy them both happily. I had this preordered until just a couple days ago as I assumed there was not a chance in Hell they weren't going to give it top treatment.

There's one reason and one reason only I'm complaining: It's so, so, so obviously as sub-par transfer. After looking at all of the screens that've been posted - for anyone that knows even the slightest amount about A/V it's just glaringly obvious.

As these movies are relatilvely new, shot on good stock, and facilities with state of the art technology exist to create new, prestine HD masters, expectations were high and given the fact again, that we have seen some great transfers demonstrating just how good Blu-ray can be, those expectations were hardly unreasonable for these movies. Considering we have already seen this sort of thing before with The Fifth Element, Gladiator and The Gangs of New York, there is no reason the transfers should not look like the proverbial 10.
Warner won't be re-releasing new transfers for the theatrical versions of LOTR for many, many years to come. I'd say 2016-17 at the absolute earliest. They have bigger fish to fry.

Well then at the very least maybe they'll be somehow convinced to release good quality versions of the EE then, seeing as they're releasing those regardless.... rather than releasing a shit version of the EE first and releasing a decent one in 2019.

There is still hope for the EE though which is why we need to be vocal NOW.

I never used to have interest in seeing the EEs, but lately I find myself wanting to check them out. I've read the descriptions of what's different on sites like moviecensorship but I want to see it for myself one of these days.

I might pick them up some day if I can find them for very cheap so I can check them out since no one I know has them.

In this situation, I wont, but that is just me. Plus I am familiar enough with Dave as a reviewer to know he is completely credible from what I have experienced in relation to his reviews.

I respect your feelings though and if I was not as familiar with Dave as I am and knew that he was as credible as he is (again from my experience in relation to his reviews) I might feel the same way.

You can probably get them on ebay used for around 10 bucks a set. I guess it depends on how cheap is cheap, though.

I love both versions, but I remember being blown away by the EE if nothing else than for the fact that in an era where "Director's" or "Extended" cut is a sham, usually an extra 10 - 30 seconds worth of footage in a given movie used as nothing more than a selling point, the Extended versions of LotR added more content than was almost believable. If you like the LotR movies, you have to watch 'em at least once.

Just saw they are going for like about $8 each in the Marketplace on Amazon. If my friend doesn't have them I may pick them up some time this summer to give them a watch; since I doubt iTunes or the PSN or the rental store in town would have the EEs.

Well Return of the King theatrical is my favorite movie, so I guess I have an obligation to see it.

Of course I've read that the EE of RotK is the weakest additions.

I love them all, but they're definitely not perfect. The EE scene in RotK where Saruman fires down a 1980's fireball on Gandalf was pretty clunky looking in particular...

You don't see grain in real life, why would you want it in a film?
