I believe if this movie were observed in a film critic class involved in reviewing the PQ of the movie and NOT the story itself, we would all come to the same conclusion, FOTR is not near reference quailty and only slighty better than upconverted DVD.

I believe the "good reviews/feedback" from those who have viewed it get lost in the story and do notice a sharper more robust PQ but do not focus on the abundant amount of flaws it has, especially during the first 30 minutes of the movie.

Also, there are those who are hardcore fan boys of the movie/story/book and will defend it at all costs regardless of the actual PQ because they don't want to hear anyone bashing something they charish so much. Simular to when Metallica put out St.Anger. Hardcore fans defended it while most people who listen to music closely found the muscianship(PQ) well below their standards.

Ok i know im going ape shit with the quotes but this one must be in this thread.

The Hardest Underrated battle quote

Elron battle scene with the elves has his site.

Tangado Haid! Leithio i philinn!
Hold your position! Fire the arrows!

I know the quote is short but it was tight how they fired all those arrows and didn't hit him. Its nice to see the king fighting with his troops. Elron was a gangsta! LOL.

I've heard very, very few people try to say that.

Or don't fixate on them. If you have to forget you are watching a film to find flaws in the PQ, what does that say?

I would think the "hardcore fan boys" would be the ones to take the most offense if this were as bad as some are trying to say it is.

Also, I know of no one who defended St. Anger.

+1,000,000,000. You couldn't of said it better. I know you want a crystal clear picture with blu ray, but I've come to the understanding of no matter how much work a studio does to a film they can never remaster it to perfection NEVER. Its all about its original format, and they way it was shot. Star Trek looks good on DVD and Bluray because it was shoot greatly. You need to purchase a movie for the movie itself not the PQ. What the hell, if that was the case i would only own Earth biographies LOL.

Alliance is using the same transfer for the Canadian discs, just like they always do when the film is not being exclusively released by themselves. When they go it alone, they use the only thing they have access to...substandard HD broadcast versions.

I understand your reasoning, but there's no denying that it could have been a much better transfer. Toward the beginning it's DNR'ed to death, and it's obvious it's not just because the original was soft. It detracts from the overall experience. It does get better as the movie progresses, but the first 30 minutes or so look pretty bad, IMO.

Of course the movie is the main attraction, but it does help to have a clear picture.

You hit it on the head. They just wanna critize but its not the EE's

MESSAGE TO ALL CITICS!!!
I went to best buy today, and they told me they should of stocked up on this release like they did the Dark Knight, People are still gonna buy these films no matter how much to you try to downplay them. Its about the movie not as much the PQ. This trilogy pulled in almost 3 billion dollars, 1 billion in the US. You think your opinion matters, it doesn't people are still gonna buy them. I bought them after hearing about the weak review and it not being the EE's.

I agree with this.

The people who complain are a small percentage of the total audience.

Remember its not the DVD and Blu Ray, Its just the Blu ray so don't get too excited to prove someone wrong.

If the EE doesn't include the Theatrical as well, I may buy these eventually.
In some spots (IMHO) the Theatrical flows better, especially in Two Towers.
