There were originally three groups of Hobbits (Fallohides, Harfoots, and Stoors), and they originally lived on the west side of the River Anduin (east of the Misty Mountains). They migrated from that area when evil creatures inhabited Mirkwood and Angmar, and most relocated to the area around Bree and Dunland. Around 1600 Third Age (about 1400 years before the events of LoTR), "having obtained permission from the high king at Fornost" (Argeleb II), a large group of hobbits left Bree and settled the Shire. Gollum's ancestors were the Stoors, who lived near the Gladden Fields along Anduin when Isildur was killed and the Ring was lost in the river.

It appears that way, At least for Germany

Nope, unless the DVD, TV and blu-ray closed captioning/subtitles were all wrong.

ok, just got finished watching the entire trilogy. First of all, just having watched the extended editions a month ago, the theatrical cuts are universally better in every way. The pacing is just right and there's never a slow spot. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

As far as audio quality, I would give a 5 out of 5 for every film. The balance between the surround speakers is perfect and powerful without overwhelming.

Video is a little different. I think Two Towers and Return of the King cannot possibly look better. They're reference quality discs that look remarkable but Fellowship definitely has a lot of inconsistency(which I remember from the theatrical print). At times, it looks as good as the other 2 films but at others it looks slightly out of focus or soft. Now, I have no clue if it's the transfer or the source. If I was a betting man I would say the source since the other 2 films look so good. Overall, I'd say if you have any reservations on buying the trilogy, don't. It's an excellent boxed set that any rings fan would be proud to add to their collection.

Next up....Star Wars

I'm not sure why they were screaming death but it seems to be common in movies of this nature for soldiers to talk about dying in battle as if it's a good thing. Probably has something to do with being remembered or getting an honorable death or some such.

Well, after much deliberation, I voted "no" in this thread's poll. After all these years of borrowing copies of LOTR DVDs for my annual viewing, and eagerly awaiting a high definition release for the past 3 years, I decided

A) I ought to have my own copy of the trilogy in my collection
B) I must have the extended versions with the generous package of bonus features.

So, I decided to go old school and get the curently out of print Extended Edition DVDs. Amazon.ca had a decent price on this (under $40) which my friends at Best Buy matched and even gave me a few bucks off the Amazon price. I've waited long enough for my LOTR, and a blu-ray experience will have to wait perhaps a couple of years until after The Hobbit gets released with likely some new BD box set at that time. So, I'm sad at my blu-ray loss, but overjoyed at my surfeit of bonus features!

Be VERY careful. Watching too much LOTR will make thick curly hair grow on the top of your feet. I' just finishing up TTT and I feel a need to shave them.

Gollum used to be a Hobbit. So you see what eating too much raw fish will do to you. No more sushi for me. I'm not a Hobbit, but I am somewhat short in stature. Can't be too careful.

Haldir's Only 2 quotes
"I bring word from Lord Elrond of Rivendell. An Alliance once existed between Elves and Men. Long ago we fought and died together. We come to honor that allegiance."

"That dwarf breaths so loud we could of shoot him in the dark" LOL very very funny.

I wish that dude had more rolls, beside Legolas he was the coolest elf.
