Like I've said many times though, I'd love nothing more than to be completely wrong on this one
I can honestly say you aren't with regards to the first two films (have yet to watch the blu of the third one). It'll be good to hear what you thought of it after sieng it on a 35mm print again.

Wow,this is just a ridiculous comment. I don't think the screenshot "scientists" are even ballsy enough to make that claim. Can you provide the time when these scenes are supposedly worse than DVD?

Probably not. It comes across as just attention seeking.

Finished ROTK last night. Wow. What a spectacular movie artistically and what a fantastic Blu-Ray technically.

As for the on going debate, watch the FOTR part of Gandalf arriving at the Shire and then watch the opening with Smeagol and Deagol in ROTK. FOTR doesn't even look like a Blu-Ray in comparison.

PS - I'm watching on a 1080p 55" screen just as a note.

I am sure that you think the VHS is much better then the Blu-ray also right?

Watched TTT lat night. Fantastic! Very detailed. Colors are fantastic and I didnt notice it suffer from any soft scenes that FOTR had.

I would give the PQ a 4.5/5 and AQ 5/5 of course. Man the LFE when the creature that the wraiths ride flap its wings is awesome

I watched it on youtube last night. Amazing! It has never looked better. and with having it broken up into parts, it was almost like watching it on TNT with the commercials.

Don't make up rubbish to prove yourself right, that last comment should of stayed in your head buddy.
I just picked up the Bourne Trilogy for $45. Just sayin'.

though to be fair some of youtube does have 720p and 1080p options which looks like HD broadcasts.

Frodo, Sam, and Pippin originally begin the journey, Merry joins later at the Brandywine River.

Frodo first accidentally puts on the Ring while singing a song in the Prancing Pony and slipping.

Arwen is not the first Elf to help them, but Glorfindel.

Frodo rides to the river by himself, not with an Elf.

The Council of Elrond is different, and "somewhat" less dramatic.

Frodo does not slip on Caradhras, with Boromir picking up the Ring.

It was Gandalf's idea from the beginning to go through Moria, while others, notably Aragorn warned against it.

Gandalf chooses the upward passage, not the downward passage, at their stop in Moria where he has "no memory of this place".

Their escape from the Chamber of Mazarbul is different.

Their sojourn in Lothlorien is different.

The island of Tol Brandir does not split the Rauros waterfall.

Frodo's vision on Amon Hen when he puts on the Ring is different.

He does not talk to Aragorn on Amon Hen.

Frodo and Sam's separation from the Fellowship is different.

Frodo does not fall into the mere of dead faces and is not confronted by ghostly apparitions.

Sam does not fall down the cliff at the Black Gate.

Faramir does not want to take the Ring to Gondor, he lets the Hobbits go.

The people of Rohan are not sent to Helm's Deep.

Aragorn does not fall off a cliff at Helm's Deep, and therefore there is no need for his horse to revive him.

The only Elf at Helm's Deep is Legolas. There is no Elvish army.

Once the battle is over, and Gandalf, Aragorn, Theoden etc. go to Isengard, that entire scene and sequence is different. Saruman and Wormtongue do not die at Isengard, per the EE, but in the Shire.

The palantir scene with Pippin is different, in a different location.

Elrond does not go to Rohan and give Aragorn the sword Anduril; Aragorn left Rivendell with the sword.

Paths of the Dead scene is completely different.

The army of the dead does not fight at Minas Tirith, but leaves after securing the fleet at Pelargir.

Frodo does not send Sam home.

The Shelob's lair sequence is different, and Frodo does not confront Gollum after he exits the tunnel, Sam does.

Gandalf confronts the Witch King at the gate of Minas Tirith, and the Witch King leaves when the horns of Rohan blow. Gandalf and Pippin do not wait to die in a courtyard.

It is not Aragorn's idea to distract Sauron's army while Frodo is in Mordor.

The scene at the Black Gate is different.

The coronation of Aragorn is completely different.

... and there are others, but I have to go.
Here are some more:

[Show spoiler]Bilbo was at the Council of Elrond in the books.

It was seventeen years from Bilbo's disappearance to the time Frodo leaves the Shire with the Ring.

Arwen's life was not dependent on destroying the ring.

Mt. Doom was a lot farther away from Barad-Dur (Sauron's tower)

Bilbo didn't turn into a monster when asking to look at the ring in Rivendell

Galadriel was not a sorceress. She was a powerful elf who wore one of the three elf-rings of power. The temptation of Galadriel was different in the books. She didn't transform into some menacing figure.

It was Galadriel who said she wanted to talk to Gandalf, not her husband Celeborn.

As Bob said the breaking of the fellowship was very different. Frodo left without talking to anyone else, after escaping from Boromir. Sam alone figured out what Frodo was doing and followed him.

Gollum does not continue to talk to Frodo after leading him into Shelob's lair.

Saruman does not cause the snowstorm on Caradhras. The mountain has an evil power of it's own.

The counting contest was in the books. Usually it happened when there was a break in the fighting, not in the middle of it.

That wasn't in the books.

I think there's a difference between being ugrateful and being critical of a transfer that you pay your hard-earned money for. Delivering a product that is not as good as it should be is a disservice to the customer, and the customer has a right to complain... and complaining helps. Criticizing criticism is an easy way to get labeled 'fanboy'.

What do you call comments like "slightly better than DVD"? Or even "looks worse than the DVD"? Because I wouldn't call either comment criticism. Not criticism based on reality anyway.

That's interesting to have seen it for the first time on Blu-ray. If you ever want to read the books, we have a group doing that.
