Unhappy Ranking Member Galleries

Some newbie, with no posts in the forum and no pictures in his gallery, just rated my theater gallery a 2!

Now I don't lose any sleep at night if others don't like my setup. I'm happy with it, and that's all that matters. However, I do think the rating system is useful and fun when you are wanting to see what others have done.

Is there any way to make changes to the rating system so only members with a certain # of posts in the forum (or at least have some pictures in their own gallery) can rate other's galleries?

Thanks for taking this into consideration.

You could always turn off voting in your gallery.

I like the voting... I just think the way it's implemented could be improved.

Dude, it's worth less than 2, I just gave it a 1.

LOL I'm just kidding.

I really like your set up. I thought the rankings were out of 5? Well I gave you an 8/10

LOL at 10 days in throwing the noob label at others.

That said, I see what you are saying. When you are open to voting you get the good with the bad.

I knew somebody was going to mention that!
I've contributed a lot these past 10 days!

I think the rating system has the potential to be very informative and educational IF it is limited to those that have proven themselves to be contributing members.

It's not the unfairly low rating that I am really complaining about. Hell... it would be just as much a waste of my time to look at someone's gallery that was given an unfairly high rating. With the ever increasing number of galleries to view, I would like to know that when I search through them, to get good ideas for my own setup, that I am truly looking at the best ones. The rating system becomes less useful to me if the results aren't consistent.

Regardless, I have no doubt that my suggestions have been heard, and I thank the moderators for addressing this.

Criteria for this?

It's a bunch of random nobodies (sorry) on the 'net...how do you propose to introduce consistency? This site can't even get consistencie amongst it's people that review BD's (no offense). I just think that you have some unrealistic and lofty feelings, that's all. It's like you haven't been on-line for very long and don't "understand" how this normally works LOL

Nice set-up. Definitely not worth anything lower than a 3.5-4ish. I had to LOL at the guy who rated you a 2.5. I'd give him <2 simply because of the Bose speakers he's running.

Criteria? Easy - set up an account age limit, or posts limit - set up some sort of system in which you have to have a gallery in order to rate a gallery. Also, don't go bringing in the reviews thing in here, this is totally unrelated - and you also know that complaining about that isn't going to result in any changes whether you put it here or anywhere else on the forum, so - I'm sure I'm not the first to tell you to give that a rest. It's all an OPINION. Who made you an expert on the interwebs?

It's how EVERY single rating scheme that I've seen quickly degenerate's into.

You need to simmer down with your attitude...I wasn't being mean, ugly, confrontational, or a c*ck with my OPINION.

I myself don't lose sleep over what others think about my setup. I love my setup and I know it's nowhere near a perfect set-up.

I am in noway an audiophile/videophile or a home theater enthusiast, but proud of my setup. Sometimes I think I over did it and then other times I feel I should and will do more.

I am curious as to what you think your own score should have been?

Also why would you complain about how someone score yours and then you give others a low rating? Did that person piss you off so you take it out on others? or can you note why you give a low score?

I can note why I give people lower scores. There's tons of reasons. Such as some people have like 26" TV that they're sitting 10' away from, their speakers aren't set up properly, the room is cluttered... lots of things like that.

I'm probably the nicest rater out there - I rate based on a few principles: 1 - Do the best with what they can. I'm not going to compare setups like Brain Sturgeon's with say, JasonRs. I rate based on what they can do with what they have on hand. They are both 10 and a 9 in my book! I rarely give under a 8! A college student cannot do what a seasoned veteran can.

The ONLY reason I will EVER give low ratings is clutter. I HATE clutter. I'm not talking about simple wire mess - I'm talking about a disorganized mess!

I agree 100% with both of you...

I guess my thing is, why would you do something and complain when someone does it to you?

The person who is complaining about a 2 is giving out 3's. What is that all about!

If you put your stuff out there asking for comments you'll get some that you won't like. Is your setup everyones "taste"...probably not. You can't be upset because someone says they don't like what you've done. Take the good with the bad...I don't think you really expect(ed) that everyone would stroke you and make you feel good, did you?

For the 3rd time... It's not the low rating that I have an issue with. A low rating would be fine with me IF the person giving that rating had some badass dedicated theater of their own that they were comparing it to. If someone gives me a low rating, I would like to at least be able to check out their gallery to see what they are comparing mine to.

The "value" and "worthiness" of someone's home theater is all relative. I mean... come on... haven't we all seen some incredibly high dollar theaters that were very poorly implemented? It's very possible to spend a lot of money on some expensive gear, and still not have a theater that is worthy of a high rating. The same goes for the opposite.

I just don't think it's in the best interest of the system for members who show no pictures of their own to be able to rate others. Someone with no gallery pictures of their own gave me a 4.5 rating... maybe I should have complained about that one instead??

Here's another reason I'd give another person's pictures a bad rating...

I was just looking and noticed someone just posted a screen shot of the import of Almost Famous. One person gave them a 10 for it. It's not even their own scan, it's the image Blu-ray.com uses for it. Is that really a worthy picture for someone's home theater gallery?
