Default Collection galleries?

What's up with all the galleries that are just pictures of people's BD collections (no rooms, no gear, just the BD's) that I have been seeing so many of lately? Isn't that what the collection feature is for? A big waste of blu-ray.com's bandwidth if you ask me... but it's their bandwidth I guess.

Maybe they have a soso HDTV and bluray player...spend all money on blus...the rest of their setup isn't worth posting. Idk..doesn't matter really. It's a forum and people can post what they want within reason.

On one hand I agree with you... but on the other hand I do feel that it is an abuse of the gallery system. I go to the galleries to enjoy pictures of other people's home theaters, maybe get some ideas for mine, and sometimes just to suffer extreme theater envy. It just feels like such a let down to go into a gallery and ALL they have is pictures of their blu-ray collection. If I were interested in what movies people owned.... I'd be surfing the collection feature not the gallery feature.

You take the good with the bad. Only takes few secs to get out of a gallery. It isn't that big of a deal.

I agree wit the OP. I hate going to a gallery and seeing 24 pictures of movies or figurines. If you want to post your movies and figurines, put them in their own folder. I don't think that you shouldn't post them, just give them their own dedicated folder so people have a CHOICE to see them. Don't force feed them to everyone.

I go to the galleries to see setups and get inspiration (and feed thoughts for my upgraditis) for my own setup.

I also think some of you are being harsh. Some need to follow your own posts and if you don't like the thread topic, move on. Why take the time to post a reply?

Just my little opinion. Now let's move on to some HT discussions.

That is one of my reason I dont rate on their HT gallery. Im not interested in photos showing off their huge collection or ESPECIALLY their childish toys. In somewhat makes no difference when I see their so-so setups but their collection worth more.

I also agree with the OP. The gallery section should be of peoples HT. Sometimes peoples collections are an integral part of their room/set-up. But when it is just pictures of a media library I think it is just pointless.

Exactly.... I don't mind pics of the media as part of an overall gallery. It's also nice to see how people store their media, but some of these "collection galleries" don't even show the shelving. It's just pics of the movies. We all know what BD cases look like

I made a comment about that some time ago in a thread about galleries (basically saying what you girls started this thread about), and guess what...I got reprimanded. I was told, and in hindsight correctly, that a gallery is for doing with what the member wants. I agree that I would expect to see some gear and pictures of the room and overall setup, but that's not always the case.

I think that when people post pics in their galleries they should name them appropriately, which we all have the ability to do. If it's just screenshots...label it as such. If it's your BD and/or DVD collection, label it as such. I think this would help. I once had a seperate gallery listing of about 50 pics of vinyl LP covers.....it didn't interfere with the basic HT pics I also had posted at the time.

A picture or two of the collection or collectibles is fine.......

It's when someone has 100 movies, and they have them on a rack with 10 per row, so they take 10 pictures of them..... that's a real head-scratcher to me......

I agree with the OP and I also agree with creating a seperate folder for these kind of pics. However, even if this was done, more than likely it would be the first folder that they would put in order and thus it would be the first gallery you would see when you go to check out a member's HT. Basically, you could be right back where we are now when you go to check out a member's gallery....so I guess there is really no way to avoid it.....

All in all... of course it's no big deal. If this were the most annoying thing I encountered in a day... what an amazingly blessed life I'd have, am I right? I've just been noticing it more and more lately, and was more musing about the point behind it....as really and truly... I see none. I click into those galleries and just want that ten seconds of my life back. I get tempted to tell them so in their comments.... but to date have not

They think they can run this country and shut down anyone they feel like to. I once had my brother posted a positive comment about my home theater and that post was shut down. We both had our email names similar alike, therefore, suspicious was encountered. They dont question anyone before they could shut down a post. They do whatever they feel like it. Im slowly drifting away from this website but I totally understand what youre saying. Have you noticed that most of these collection photos are mostly for those who have lower budget systems? Perhaps they think that adding these BD collection photos would give them bettter rates or a good awarding pat on their head

That's not at all what I am talking about. I like seeing the set-ups... even the lowest end set ups. What I am talking about are galleries that are JUST movies.... no gear, no surroundings.... just close ups of movies.

You can't exactly delete someones gallery and sometimes you sit there waiting for the 25 pictures to load, only to realize that they're all pictures of the same rack of blurays.
Overall i think i agree with the OP. It's like someone who has a $80,000 car but lives in a dump. It's their life/money, but it just seems odd.

I agree they should be labeled correctly but its a forum and you'll always have someone that does this. I just hit the back button and move on. It is ridiculous those that take pics of every shelf they have of their blu-ray collection. I've got 1 pic of them in my media cabinet and thats it.

Please don't mistinterpret what I said BLURAYSONYES! I happened to agree with the mod who reprimended me about the matter and thought yes, everyone has the right to post what they want on their own gallery.

There were a few PM's back and forth about the reprimand however...it was resolved amicably.

John
