I really do hope the EE still have that in at least some scenes. Also, I love to have really deep black levels, but I just hope they aren't so dark that they obscure detail.

If PJ chose to specifically color grade some scenes, then I guess that would have to be acceptable, but I just couldn't imagine doing an across the board color change to the entire movie.

If you read Kenneth Brown's review of the TE, I think he pretty much nailed it. He even found a theater where he could view the film, after he posted his review, and went back and adjusted his rating accordingly afterwards. I don't know of any other specific instance when a blu-ray reviewer has gone to these lengths to get it right, and some reviewers would be too stubborn to adjust their rating.

I just hope we get an unbiased, detailed review soon. I would love to have a real copy of this in my hands right now, but if I was a reviewer, I think I would collapse under the weight of all of this controversy!
Robert Harris and Bill Hunt? are you calling them bias?

How is BB shipping this a week and half early? This is BB here in the U.S. right?

Can someone post a link to Robert Harris's review? I can't seem to find it.

I think it's still dark, but the color doesn't bother me. I'm so conflicted! Some shots look gorgeous and others are too dark to lose detail or have too much cyan/teal push. I'll wait until $60 (which is what I was going to wait for, anyways).

The BluBrew review is a great one, though. I'm happy to see the controversy brought up and effectively discussed.

So, what you are saying is that all his reviews suck because he is bias? That's a lame excuse. How about Robert Harris then?

never said that. you asked in that "shocked tone of voice" if Rob Harris and Bill Hunt were biased. I simply made the statement that yes, Bill Hunt is VERY biased. if you're looking for an unbiased review I wouldn't visit him ... not saying it's not accurate. just saying that yes, he's very biased.

Not at all. I have perused their sites quite a bit, but to be honest, I derive most of my reviews from this site, and cinemasquid(which also includes this site, and most others).

well if we're getting technical EVERYONE is biased... but I don't have enough info about his and his standards etc.. to make an informed decision

and how is it a joke that I think Bill Hunt is Biased?? Its an opinion formed on previous issues that he's had, nothing more... no one should blindly follow some random guy on the internet with their opinions

here's a few screencaps from that review white-balanced to that white transition...

original: http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7521/originallotr2.jpg
balanced: http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/864/balancedlotr2.jpg

I'm still not convinced the whole thing hasn't been indiscriminately made more green, but some scenes work with it better than others.

That does seem to be a slight improvement. Hmm. I really would love to know what exactly went on with this release. I think someone said it best when they said Warner Bros might have rushed this a little bit to come out before Star Wars and the other big releases later in the year.

My question is this. Yes it got 4 out og 5 stars and that is only because of the color change. So if its being confirmed that PJ wanted this new improved look of FOTR IMO like he said before the theatrical presentation it will be the same on BD EE. So will the score change to 5 then. Because then there is no fault in the transfer because it was intended with these new coloring

I am not 100% sure there wasn't an error made somewhere along in the transfer, especially when you see the screencaps 42041 posted.

I don't think it works that way.
