I just got a shipping confirmation email from best buy! It's on it's way! But I'm wondering it it's just the free ring at this point or everything. My email doesn't specify!

I encourage EVERYONE else to do the same.
There were some people who were initially trying to say the color timing had NOT been changed but merely restored to its original color timing as seen in theaters back in 2001. Luckily those people have stopped that ludicrous argument and are now arguing a different point: that is the new color timing is Peter Jackson approved. While it is within Jackson's right to change his film, it's also within my right to disagree with his changes. But in the end, the only person's opinion on the color timing who really matters is Peter Jackson's and if he specifically indicated this is how he wants the film to look now, it's kind of like fighting a losing battle.

EDIT: And when I say his is the only opinion that matters, I mean in the sense that he is the only one who can do something about his opinion.

Mr. Harris, I know you're probably busy worrying about curing diseases and the world peace (j/k), but I would appreciate it if you could answer one question.

In one of your posts you compared FOTR EE colors to a video you saw on YouTube. (I'm assuming you were referring to the split-screen comparison video.) You mentioned the greenish tint was nowhere as bad on the BD as it was on the YouTube video, or words to that effect. My question: did you view the YouTube video on the same JVC projector you viewed the BD on, or did you view the YT video on another display -- and if you did, was that second display calibrated to match the JVC projector?

Thanks.
Viewed on a calibrated Mac used for color.

Be sure to go back for a price match if, indeed, Best Buy puts it on sale for $69.99 as has been rumored.

We all know by now that PJ said at the screening at the theaters that he approved this new version of FOTR for the BD EE

My point is he thought something was wrong with the coloring and now he had the time to adjust it the way he wants it to look. And IMO it definitely looks WAY better. The shire has become more green and there really is life in the shire now. Now you can really see why the shire is a beautiful place to live with the green put into the gras and the fields, the flowers has also gotten new life with its new coloring of pink and yellow

He also adjusted the snow scnenes , Which i also personally like. The ring in the snow has gotten more detail. Hell every scene in the movie has gotten more detail over the TE BD.

My point is this take New Moon for example that movie is applied with a yellowish tint. That is how the director wanted it to look. Now PJ wanted FOTR to look more alive with the green of the shire, Applying some blue tint cyan tint on the mountain scene. Also the Rivendell scenes is really way better now. There no longer is this brown and yellow layer over these scenes anymore. Now Rivendell also looks more alive and with much more detail then before.

With all this green tint talk people seem to have forgotten screencaps like this

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/58226
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/58223
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/58250
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/58228

And if you look at it actually almost all movies is applied with somesort of coloring tint to fit the movie.

But if people don't want to buy because of this new approved look for FOTR EE by PJ. Be my guest. But anyone hoping for a replacement on something he himself has approved is kidding themselves

lol Good one.

But I see Blu-Ray.com members fighting more in the style of West Side Story.

Mr. Harris,

Thanks for your review (parts of it has been posted in this thread) and thank you for taking the time to post here.

I appreciate your input and soooo look forward to seeing LOTR EE on blu-ray!

This is a beautiful set, with which I have no problems.

What I find interesting is that a quick check of merely three sites, blu-ray.com, HTF and AVS, one will find some 5,200 posts and 300,000 reads.

With that kind of time, interest and power, I would expect at least one major disease to be conquered, many children going hungry to be fed, and something akin to world peace.

One must find the humor (humour, for our friends in the UK) in these discussions, which all seem to come from a (possibly) innocent posting of what someone would have readers believe are frame grabs.

As has been stated in the past, "people are better than anybody."

4/5 for video quality. Those shots confirm the extreme color change........still ugly IMO. Snow is green/blue..... Not to mention it is darker in general in a lot of those shots.......not impressed from these 2 perspectives. The ONLY shot I slightly prefer on the EE is the very first one, every other shot the TE gets the nod as far as color........Really wish Netflix would get this in......

Thank you. Very informative. I do like the new color palette for some scenes and some scenes not so much based on what I am seeing here.

For the snow, Ill admit it the original does look better.

Some of the shots are absolutely beautiful, but some still do reflect that God awful green. I am really glad to see the new color grading was more selective than originally rumored to be. I bet you anything this won't be the last time Jackson revises the color timing for this film and we will see something that fixes the few remaining "poorly" colored shots when the rumored ultimate editions are released a few years from now.

I watched the TE blu-ray of FOTR last night, and part of TTT today, and one thing I've noticed so far, is that they obviously do have quite a few scenes that are specifically color graded unusually from scene to scene, but occasionally in both, there are moments with pure, clean white. I really do hope the EE still have that in at least some scenes. Also, I love to have really deep black levels, but I just hope they aren't so dark that they obscure detail.

If PJ chose to specifically color grade some scenes, then I guess that would have to be acceptable, but I just couldn't imagine doing an across the board color change to the entire movie.

If you read Kenneth Brown's review of the TE, I think he pretty much nailed it. He even found a theater where he could view the film, after he posted his review, and went back and adjusted his rating accordingly afterwards. I don't know of any other specific instance when a blu-ray reviewer has gone to these lengths to get it right, and some reviewers would be too stubborn to adjust their rating.

I just hope we get an unbiased, detailed review soon. I would love to have a real copy of this in my hands right now, but if I was a reviewer, I think I would collapse under the weight of all of this controversy!

MEB,

How did you find out about the rumor of the set being on sale at Best Buy for 69.99?

Ken truly and by far had the best review of the TEs. I had forgot he even went out and viewed the film at the theater.......very cool. Looking forward to his review whenever it hits.

All of those mountain shots look so ugly to my eyes now I respect your opinion though.

The fifth shot down looks terrible on the EE IMHO....WTF?
