Yes we will have to wait until Sept to see just how many times GL insterted Hayden and Jar Jar into the OT. The LOTR fans should consider themselves very lucky.

What a great review, dismisses the valid arguments on preservation of original theatrical exhibition as the whining of fanboys. What a solid defense by resulting to the tried-and-true tactic (at least in Kindergarten) of name-calling. I stopped reading DVDfile a long, long time ago and now I remember why!

What do you expect of a corporate owned site? Their reviews became useless long ago.
If I remember correctly they also praised Alien 3 and 4 as excellent although these transfers were quite mediocre at best. That shows best the mentality that's at work there. The only releases they tore apart recently were the Miramax/Echo Bridge abominations.

Off course no one is obligated to cancel their pre-orders if they don't want to, but I fear that if too many people buy the set, Warner may not have a reason to create a replacement program. And since many people think it's all right if it was approved be the director, it's cheaper for the studio to just say it was intentional.

Remember that although we love those films for them it's all about money. Usually companies don't care much about complaining as long as people keep buying their products. It's just like Star Wars.

I realize it might be too much wishful thinking but, even if this was really a decision made by Jackson it doesn't necessarily mean it's a done deal. Not all directors are like George Lucas, some actually care about their fans. If Peter Jackson is one of them, there's always a chance (although incredibly slim) that he might realize that it wasn't such a good idea and return the palette to its original look, even if it only happens when he releases the SUPER DUPER ULTRA MOST DEFINITE MEGA 3-D DIRECTOR'S EVEN MORE EXTENDED EDITION (I only hope I'm still alive by then).

One last thing, according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, one of the definitions of forum is: "a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas". So this is the place where we can voice our opinions, good or bad, about this particular product. So I suggest to the people who are bothered by our "whining" to go somewhere else, after all, no one is forced to be here. If you are happy about the green-tinted issue, fine. Many here have expressed that, and their opinions must be respected. Others like me however, feel that it's bad and are trying to find ways to solve this problem and our opinions must ALSO be respected.

I bet Peter Jackson was very specific about asking for those titles to be that putrid light green. [/sarcasm]

Mark

I just noticed this one now while browsing through the thread. Correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought that the titles aren't part of the master itself and only inserted later so that localized copies can be made for different countries. Any grading on the image should have been done anyway long before the titles are inserted, shouldn't they?

So if that's the case a green tint in the title would inevitably mean that it was added much, much later in the game, right?

And the opinions of those who disagree with your opinions must also be respected; yet there are several in this thread who refuse to do so.

Discussion is fine, but when one group consistently attacks, belittles and all attempts to undermine the opinions of anyone who disagrees with them -- well then things get heated.

The group that's most active at that are clearly the denialists.

I mean, the problem is there, that's an undeniable fact. Whether someone cares enough or not is another matter. However - and here's where it gets tricky - the ones who don't care about the change in color have nothing to lose by this debate, quite unlike those who do care and are bothered by it. We have to hope that some acknowledges the error that was made and issues a replacement. So why do you think, that things get heated if some people are doing their best to undermine such efforts, even though such actions do absolutely nothing for their own good?

Exactly what efforts are prople undermining.

Do you really think that WB will do anything based on the contents of these threads?

One thing that is not known is if it is intentional by PJ. And we will not know that for an absolute fat until a statement is released.

So if things like that make you feel undermined....well you have been undermined

So why get heated?

You should be complaining to WB directly and not getting in heated arguments in this thread with people that simply disagree with you.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Even though I was pleased with the upgrade over the DVD if they went back and rescanned Fellowship it deserves a re-issue (and a replacement programm or a serious money off voucher for those who bought the original) of the theatrical Blu-ray.

Warners Bros. offered a replacement program for the badly coded Inception DVD so there is precedent.

Hmm, that one I do find puzzling. I know my French theatrical edition DVDs have this text in French (as well as the "Lord of the Rings" text, too) - which is why I've ordered it from the U.S. this time around.

I didn't hear about that. What was wrong with it? Was it only the DVD that was affected?

+1 ...

I think we have some fine examples on this very page ... Some don't even bother to read rather small posts ...

I do think that any effort, even if it's not considered official, increases for at least a tiny percent the chance to see a proper version of this great movie.

Maybe when they release a version with both versions and seamless branching. But hopefully not again in Shrek-o-vision.

Seriously, I realize these are the EE's, but WB knows the displeasure regarding the TE of Fellowship, so they went back and did it right for the EE's regarding detail, but again where's the fix for the TE? It's been like a year since the original TE of Fellowship came out with all it's detail flaws. Where's the replacement disc? By going back with a rescan and fixing things, they basically are admitting it. You haven't heard anything about a replacement program for that and I suspect you never will. With regard to the green EE of Fellowship, all they have to say is this was the intent and wash their hands of it.
Just to clarify, as said many times before, this is not a rescan, they are using the existing 2k digital elements to create the new master.

It was only the UK DVD (which came with the Triple Play or LE) that was affected (and a certain batch number at that), Warner Bros. were excellent about the situation, an email to let them know you had the faulty disc and a less than a week later the replacement turned up.

More info here.
