I see little point in reading this thread anymore. It has most definitely passed over into twilight zone territory.
See you all on the other side in some of the other threads.
Sorry we can't pretend the transfer is good.

Also, it may not be a bad idea for someone to add as a P.S., or an aside in their query to P.J., something to the effect like a question as to his current project (The Hobbit) and ask him if they are using a Mistika based workflow during post to handle all the data –
http://www.sgomistika.com/mistika-di...g/di-workflow/

for, very few folks are aware of such a geeky nuance as that and it will certainly perk his interest in the fact that you mention it and are an apparent fan of both his past as well as his upcoming filmmaking.

Just a thought.

Good to see him back actively online with Facebook.

For clarity to my past post which you’ve quoted and after which I’ve re-read, I should make note of the fact that PJ will be using the ‘Mistika’ (I believe, 6 of them, total…to be exact) for the humongous amount of data that The Hobbit 3D in 48fps will generate – that was not some shot in the dark.

Over at AVS forum, a fellow posted a screen shot of the title screen for FOTR taken from the EE Blu-ray. I loaded the image into Photoshop. Even the title has the green tint!

I bet Peter Jackson was very specific about asking for those titles to be that putrid light green. [/sarcasm]

They put the green tint to the whole frame, the whole movie? I thought they did this selectively?

Have you seen it?

Seriously, this thread is full of nothing but Negative Nancies who wouldn't be pleased if Jackson showed up on their front door with a signed copy of the transfer they wished, - no, prayed - they had.

So FOTR is green but TT and ROTK are normal? Won't it look out of place?

Nonsense. If the first disc wasn't green, I'd be pleased as hell (judging by the vast improvement in detail in the screen shots) and would have bought the thing on day one.

Any idea when Amazon will charge those who pre-ordered the set?

When they ship, and Amazon rarely ships it to arrive early. Could get lucky and have UPS/FedEx deliver it a day early but I wouldn't count on it.

Will they ship it Friday? That seems about right for release day delivery using two-day shipping.

Curious (because I don't have the discs in hand, nor do I have a copy of the ripped East-Asian torrent floating around), for all of the areas that should appear "white" -- are the color values always the same (or close enough to each other) to try and lead more proof to a "global overlay"?

I'm a Amazon Prime member, and in the past anytime I pre-order something on Amazon that has release date shipping -- mine ships out Monday on an overnight.

Not sure why they do this, I think it would cost them more money than having them ship it on Friday or Saturday, for the last 20+ orders that's how it's happened.

Other prime members have had theirs ship on Fridays so I guess it's a slight YMMV?

Haha well then if you don't respect him, you shouldn't watch his movies.

I can't tell if that's /s or not

I though the brief packaging discussions were great, but like just about anything for the foreseeable future, it was quickly overrun with the color grading "discussions"

Same here. If they had just left the color intact like they did for TT and ROTK, I would be excited right now instead of feeling like someone dropped the ball. The fact that the detail has been restored makes this green issue seem even worse since it looks so good from that perspective now

Here's what will happen when the set is released: I'll come home from seeing King, go to bed and 8 hours later there will be 100+ pages of complaints.

I will say this again: when you sit down and watch the film from beginning to end, you don't notice the color changes without actively searching for it and remembering the comparisons and the commotion by the fandom. I guess I'm the only one who can watch it without thinking of any of those.

It certainly appears that way. At least, on the EE Blu-ray of FOTR.

Here's another one for you kids.

The theatrical edition Blu-ray:

The new extended edition Blu-ray:

Using Photoshop's color picker to measure the RGB values of the "white" area of the horse's forehead on the EE Blu-ray. The red arrow shows the spot where I measured the color.
