I would prefer to have one disc per movie, but if the quality suffers even 0.01%, I would rather have two. It would be nice to watch the whole film without switching discs, but it's not that big of a deal to switch discs after two hours (snacks & bathroom break time).

I'm going one step further and just keeping my theatrical set. While it is great that these are likely coming out earlier than expected (if this is all true) for the many people who want these, I never had any intention of buying the extended editions.

I also don't think there's much of a chance that these go beyond one disc per movie. As already mentioned, Watchmen is a movie that is just over 3 hours and it fits on one disc easily along with the Maximum Movie Mode. I realize these are longer than Watchmen, but there was still plenty of room left on the disc. Opinions on the compression differ, but either way, these will still likely all be on one disc per movie.

I would never not mind changing disc for better PQ.
But what makes you think the Extended Editions even would have better PQ than the poor cheap looking Theatrical Cuts?

Great news. Ditched my DVDs a while back, and didn't buy the theatrical blu rays as I have no interest in watching those versions of the movies.

This is great news. The extended cuts are the only way to watch The Lord of the Rings films, I'm so glad they are coming out this year.

I'm looking forward to this. Bought the theatrical version and enjoyed it, not a big deal to double dip with movies I love this much.
Hell....I bought the Star Wars trilogy 4 different times and I didn't like 'em nearly as much.

Already owned the theatrical release. Though I prefer the extended, I'm not eager to get it. Maybe when it's 60% off the price.

The only way I would buy the extended editions again is if each movie was on one disc per movie. They need to either put the special features on a different disc or forget about them.

Again, Criterion's The Thin Red Line has more than 5 hours of 1080p video on one disc. It can been done if handled correctly.

All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi."

Step 1: Take day off from work on day of release.

Step 2: Purchase EE's regardless of price on that day

Step 3: Spend entire day watching EE's, neglecting girlfriend(s) and immediate family as a result

That sounds like a hell of a good plan.

Its 'bout time they released the extended cuts but I'm really hoping the picture and the audio quality is good. Between this and the Star Wars, I'm in heaven so far...

Based on the fact along that the extendeds had better video and Audio quality on DVD then the previous versions, the Theatricals looked horrid on dvd especially fellowship, EE fixed the issues then and it should do so now.

Thanks, never heard of this, sounds great! I've seen pictures that show that even Fellowship can look great...Ofcourse they need to spend alot more time and money to make it look better than (specially) Fellowship (witch is my favourite). But ofcourse it can be done on 1 BD disc by a true professional in coding it on disc.
I would be in heaven with great PQ - I only own the TC:s on DVD! And would definately upgrade even I usually don't bother to upgrade films if have a good DVD vs. a bad/very mediocre BD.

The EE do have enough extras, but the Ultimate Edition version is supposed to contain extra scenes.

PJ said the scenes won't be put into the movie they'll be an option to watch separately. He feels the EE are a finished project and doesn't want to keep adding to it.
