More and more people who have actually seen the bluray are coming out and saying it looks great.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that is what is being said.
I watched Fellowship on Saturday and it does indeed look great. The only instance I noticed something off with regard to color timing was during the "second breakfast" scene. Everything else looked fine and if I'd had no previous indication that something was wrong, I would have completely enjoyed the movie instead of looking for problems in every scene.

Text at the Fellowship title was white/off-white (as were the end credits) and not pea green like the screen shot.

Watched on a DVE calibrated Panasonic projector on a 120" screen.

Apologies if my expectation of a certain standard of professionalism from professionals bothers you. If you are never unhappy with the quality of blu-rays, feel free to avoid these quality discussions, since you seem to have no use for them anyway.

Make no mistake when someone who has seen the set and is unhappy with the colors, I definitely want to hear what they have to say.

I am anxious to hear what Mark Booth has to say when he sees it with his own eyes.

I expect he will provide an honest opinion and not let his "desire to be right" influence his opinion.

I will gladly do the same tommorrow evening or wednesday morning.

WOW! WOW! WOW! If those screens are to be believed, it only furthers my disbelief at what a botch job we have here. The world of middle earth has died. Talk about sapping the fidelity out of an image. Once again, bad taste color tampering rears it's ugly head. Message to either Jackson or WB: as Whitney Houston once put it.....crack is wack. Get some help!

And yet everyone still stands by their reviews when they say it looks great.

I will say the Legolas really needs to find a doctor. He kinda looks sick.

Because, their brain is trying to compensate for known colors. At this point, the only real reviews from people that would be worth any value, would be people viewing both the TE and EE side by side at the same time. Heck, there should be a side by side viewing at Best Buy, for which I would bet serious money that most people would easily pick the TE in terms of color fidelity.

But dude, seriously? How many people actually do that? I just don't understand the point of doing side by side comparisons when that will almost always make things look weird.

Someone made the point earlier:

What happened to just enjoying a film?

have you done this? Have you seen the EE? My guess is no, so thus makes your post stupid and irrelevant.

I know, what an improvement.......For this Blu-ray the tagline should read...."Blu-ray: The new look of death"

HAHAHAHA. The screenshots say it all. Could it be you're color blind or perhaps work for WB, thus making your arguement stupid and irrelevant? If you can't see the difference in those shots, get yourself to an eye doctor at once.

Hey, maybe the screenshots are what it will look like. I am in the group of "wait and see what it looks like in person". I have never seen a screen shot that represents what you actually see when viewing the movie on your TV. I am not on any side on this. I will wait and see it with my own eyes and then judge. I do not sit here and claim things which I have not even seen or whatever.

Do you plan on getting this set or what are your plans? At least a rent to see for yourself?

I guess I work for WB seeing as I don't think there's anything remotely objectionable about the screenshots.

Ok, you don't like "pea green"? Well perhaps pea green might trend more towards a yellow pallette, but "ugly green" should suffice just as well.

Here are a series of screen prints and manipulations done in photoshop to show what is at work to achieve the differences between the Theatrical Blu-Ray and the Extended Blu-Ray:

Fade to "White" (straight screenprint):

"Second Breakfast" (straight screenprint with comments):

Changes needed to make TE Blu look like EE Blu (straight screenprint of EE but manipulation of TE):

Quote:
I've looked at every screenshot and YouTube clip and the tint is so subtle that without a pure-white reference right in front of me, I wouldnt notice a thing. Snow appears white to me and every professional review seems
And about the Matrix comparison, while they were all shot at the same time, FOTR was the first to be finished. Therefore the least amount of post production time and the least advanced software used. Another forum poster gave an excellent explanation earlier.

As for why FOTR is the only one to have it's color correction changed, that might be because Peter Jackson stated that FOTR was to have it's color correction changed with it's new remaster.
The fact that FOTR was completed and released first might explain special effects not being as high in quality as the sequels, and maybe overall image quality being less, hence the need for a new HD master, but all three went through the same color grading process and the Extended Editions went through some additional color grading for the DVD release. And as has been said on here before, there ARE changes to color grading in the EE Blu-Ray OTHER THAN the changes of the green tint and 100% contrast setting that has been applied to the whole film.

No remotely reasonable explanation has been offered by anyone here as to why THESE changes (green tint and 100% contrast throughout film) have been made, and I'm including the person you referred to as "Another forum poster gave an excellent explanation earlier" in that list.

Take care,
HeKS

There would still be people coming and complaint that half way in there was a small, tiny little color shift or that the sound in one scene was not exactly as they remember when they saw it in theater once back in December 2001 and that these little things have now ruined the movies for them and they will never be able to watch them again and that it's made it impossible for them to have children and that a curse should be place on Peter Jackson, the restore team, WB, God, the Universe for what was done to them.

Drama queens will always be found and available on the good old Internet
