Good question.......I never even watched the TEs on blu since I was holding out for the EEs. If there is ANY difference, I cant imagine it being BIG, but maybe someone who has listened to both could fill us in.

I can check mine out early in the am. Gotta go to work soon. I gotta say though, the green screens didn't really bother me much so I wouldn't know what to look for.

I just gotta find out where to get these 5 disc black cases. Maybe some 6's and 7's. They look beautiful.

Won't be watching them until Saturday (11 hour marathon FTW)

I am shocked to hear Warner Bros announce that this green tint is intentional. Could PJ really have said "please make the Fellowship titles green, but leave the others alone"? I am baffled. Could he really have done something that strange and random?

"The intended look"? Intended by who? I guess it should be obvious they're talking about PJ, but why can't they say that? With all this controversy, they should be specific. Furthermore, I would like an explanation for why the green tint was not seen in theaters.

I can understand why the fans who believed from the beginning it was intentional would say "what more do you want? you'll never believe it, will you?" But I can't help it. I have to much respect for PJ to believe he would do something so random and silly. I will need to see PJ himself say "Yes, I wanted the entire film tinted green...including the Fellowship title and credits." Only then will I conclude that he has been drinking, and concede the Blu-ray reflects his bizarre intentions.

Ive heard this argument before, but it doesnt change the fact the council members looked like they had spray on tans. The sun doesnt do that at least ive never witnessed a sunset do that. FOTR was jacksons first digital color grading attempt, and he was a little heavy handed with it. Im glad he went back and dialed it down. My point though is that if your gonna point out flaws in one version you should do it in the other too. This one has no more flaws than the other. The original had way too many pinks reds and oranges. Sauromans cloak should not be pink yet sometimes it was. Intentional or not it was too much. Peter realized this and changed it. Meaning this was intentional. Its not up to us to decide what looks intentional as that is completely subjectional. We need to be objectional and listen to the facts on the ground. As it stands this new tint is the intended tint and is here to stay. We cant always have it our way. Kicking and screaming is doing nothing but making us look like a group of spoiled brats.

WRONG. Sure there was a push to those colors, but people enjoy seeing warmth and those colors covey that. Green or teal or whatever you choose to call it, I'm sorry to say, doesn't do that. As seen in those ZonaDVD screens, the life has just got sucked out of the movie. Even a few who are going to get the set have said characters in the movie look a little on the sick side. There are even those who have said they'd buy the set, but if there was a replacement disc they'd get it as a matter of preference alone. The color timing has stripped this film of life. You just can't look at the screenshots and not be horrified. The film had a luster to it, a brilliance that is now sadly gone. If it's a mistake so be it, if it's Jackson's intent then he must be practicing without a license OR he's a vampire that just sucked the blood out and left us with a sickly patient of a film.

Well, I guess I won't be buying LotR extended editions on blu-ray after all. Bummer...I'd been waiting a long time for these. My only hopes now are either that this is just a way to keep sales solid tomorrow, and they'll announce a reissue in the next month or so, or to wait for the inevitable super-duper ultimate five movie extended edition set, and hope that they've been persuaded to remove the tint by then.

I don't care (and have never cared) if it's intentional. I don't particularly care that "it's not that bad" (and I'm certainly not willing to spend $70 just to find out for myself!). After all this, I'll never "unsee" this tint in the movie. So I'll make do with the TE blu-ray and the EE DVDs I already have, where the snow is white, not green (albeit really sharp and crisp green). Maybe I'll pick up TT and RotK when they're released separately. Such a shame: FotR is my favorite movie of the trilogy; it's the one I most wanted to see in glorious high definition. I envy those who can get past this horrible tint mistake.
Amen. Spot on my friend. My feelings exactly. I love Blu-ray and rarely watch DVDs anymore...but I can easily hang on to my coveted dvd EE sets of these masterpieces. They look and sound great even projected on a 120 inch screen.
The green tint on some scenes is horrible & whether or not it has Jackson's stamp of approval doesn't make the green tint less bad. We each have a choice and no sweat to those who buy and are ok...I'm choosing to not.

Hyperbole much. Sorry i just dont see how the "life" has been sucked out of the film. If that is how you feel buy the set and if there is a replacement coming you can replace it free of charge. If no replacement comes you going to have to learn to live with it anyways. And i cant understand why people put "wrong" in caps locks like that. I get this image in my head of a red faced puffed up five year old when someone tells then something that doesnt set well with him. As if their opinion is the only one. . Things change, its just a movie, life will go on. In the meantime i am going to go watch these movie in HiDef while you hold your breath for a replacement.

wish they had used the same dvd cover art as the blu ray case cover art instead. don't really like the new 5 characters as the cover art.

I won't be buying the set. There's no need to now.

I agree with both of you..........I am still so up in the air about even buying this set now............ I am trying to focus on the positives, but its hard knowing how odd some of these scenes look and certainly will look in my HT for a film I have watched countless times. Very, very strange decision if truly intentional which I still dont believe it is in light of how bad some of these shots/scenes look.

There are some people claiming that there copies don't have the underexposed green scenes. I wonder why?

It's not just the color.. it's the lack of contrast/"pop"..

I'm glad I'm waiting for the barebones set. Maybe this PQ thing will work itself out by then. I can't imagine owning a weird copy of FOTR whereas TT and ROTK are perfect.

A lot of whining, pontificating and bluster when the vast majority on here have not seen it.

There is still an issue for those of us who don't give a crap whether or not it was intentional (and just who is the "everyone" who has been saying that all along?) There's still an issue with those of us who feel the green tint is a defect whether it was intentional or not. I honestly don't care if Peter Jackson himself knocks on my door and says, "Hey, y'know, this green tint is exactly what I want in the movie." George Lucas told me that he always wanted Greedo to shoot first. I still consider it a defect.

I don't want green snow. I'm not alone in feeling that way. To pretend that that's not an issue just because some Warner Brothers dude issues a vague statement to the effect of "All is well! Nothing to see here! Totally okay to buy this product! Ignore the controversy!" is just dumb. A lot of people won't buy this set in the condition it's being released. Enough to make anybody actually take notice? Maybe not. But we're not not buying the set to make a point. We're not buying the set because we don't want to watch FotR with a crappy green tint over it. That's it. That's all it comes down to.

Good for you if all you need is someone telling you that you will like the film. You will likely be very happy not forming your own opinions very often. Some people are more discriminating. Why does it bother you so much that those people have higher standards than you? You're getting the set you're being told you want. You should be happy.
