This is the first time the entire Fellowship has been mastered to a digital intermediate, allowing digital color grading tools to be used comprehensively for the first time. Last edited by DaViD Boulet; 06-28-2011 at 12:02 PM. |

Some guys over at cinefacts.de are going crazy because Warner
slowed down the German audio. There's even a comparison: Theatrical: http://home.datacomm.ch/ehcolten/ver...inofassung.mp3 Extended: http://home.datacomm.ch/ehcolten/vergleich2Extended.mp3 Source: http://forum.cinefacts.de/219063-her...ml#post7269912 |

Having watched about an hour in, I gotta say it doesn't seem like the green is all that oppressive. Yes the greens of grass and plants are VERY green, but stuff like Gandalf's beard looks much more as it should. Maybe it's because it is in motion, but the screenshots don't do it justice. FOTR looks glorious. Totally satisfied with my purchase.
Now if I could find where they got these 5-disc black cases. |

I would take Harry Knowles with a grain of salt because he doesn't know what he's talking about. He gives cinephiles a bad name and his DVD articles are trash. That's why I posted the sarcastic phrase, thank you very much. Quote:

I would like to buy the box but there is a confusion regarding the French subtitles. Some sites like Waren Bros shop say there are French subtitles and others sites say there aren't French subtitles. Can somebody check this for me? Thanks.

has it ever occurred to anyone this is what PJ wanted? not the color thing, but the idea of weeding out the supposed "real" fans of the film and accept any changes to the film big or small, and exposing the so-called "trained" ones that secretly didn't like the film anyway? Lucas has done this to some of you already. he calls it "Special Edition"... and when The Wars come out, it will take over Rings as the No. 1 title released, EVER! until Indy comes out... with it's "changes"...
now I'm not saying: get a life, stop whining, get it anyway. not my place to say that. but, it's not necessarily nice for you to talk down to those that don't see a problem either, (untrained eye, you're just blind sheep who'll buy any piece of crap, mine is better than yours so shut up) The Clouds Aren't White! won't make me enjoy The Story any less... My Opinion ONLY... ![]() |

FotR arrived a decade ago, when the digital intermediate (DI) process was in its infancy. Analogue shots only had the capability of normal photographic timing, meaning basic changes in yellow, cyan and magenta exposures and density. This was the basis of the problematic theatrical Blu-ray, which was scanned dupe. While the other two films had gone through the DI stage completely, the first in the series had been the unfortunate step-child, having arrived just a bit early. Now, for the first time, the entire film, inclusive of analogue shots has been taken back into post-production, allowing the filmmakers their shot at full digital grading with a full set of modern tools. For the record, a digital grade toward a DI record will normally take weeks or over a month for a normal length production. 200-400 hours is not unusual. Double that for LotR, and calculate the time and expense. A DI color suite with a top colorist generally bills out between $600-800 per hour. When a filmmaker gets a shot at this, it is not taken lightly. This is not something generally performed on a Macbook Air. RAH |
